Multi playing ...

Stalin arrives from the south.
<366hp 57ma 113mv>
Stalin recites a damp moldy scroll.
You are covered in sticky webs!

where
You are in Newbatia. Also in this area are:
Name - Location
-----------------------------------------
Jormungandr - The South Gate of Newbatia

If ur webbed and just QUIT! shouldn't all ur eq get dropped?
Or is this consider multi playing, cause he Jor isn't renting and getting
another newbie to web other ppl?

If thats the case, we can all Quit keep our eq on us, and steal steal steal
switch drop and sign on as another char. Hum.... sounds better then
mudding these days.

He can't use a gimlet ... he has 4 webbing scrolls.

Tell me how that all works?

Unless he is very fast, quits sign in as his newbie webs others. THEN sign
in as his Jor and get all and wait for his webs to dispel????

Maybe he is not multiplaying or doing anything strictly against the rules but he is disrupting the game. He's probably sitting there laughing at how he can get away with it without anyone doing anything. We play this game to have fun and he's spoiling the fun for a lot of people. This isn't whining, this is stating the fact that the game we know and love is being ruined , I believe, by one person out to do just that.
This is your game IMMS and you can do want you want with it but dont be surprised if the numbers drop if you let this go on much longer.

I think by allowing pthievery the immorts have succesfully removed the whiners from the game and that is just what they need, something to get rid of people who can't handle the game. And from what you said, that's good because you're giving pthieves even more incentive to screw your mudlife up. Hurrah!

[quote="Krok":24tyo9j0]We don't bother to answer because _their_ posts are childish. Trying to change what is allowed in a GAME is pointless, imho.[/quote:24tyo9j0]

Remember that every time (?) that IMMS are implementing some changes....."some" people are ... voicing their opinion !

I see no problem about newcomers finding out about "pthieves" and voicing what they think about that.

A good answer to them is to tell them how they can protect themselves against such players. I'm guessing it`s part of the "newbie" forum.

Pthieves: Devil's Advocate

Postby dt » Wed Oct 12, 2005 4:22 am

I must admit that while Derro/Jorm's antics can get tiring at times, he does at least offer to sell back said item to person robbed. He managed to grab someone's sword of valor and offered to sell it back instead of junking it. Thankfully, someone was able to kill him 1st saving coins for the person robbed. Point being, I've seen alot worse that Derro and if nothing else it should be noted to admit that he has won. No-one and I do mean no-one should have any items worthwhile unequipped ever. If you do, plan on having them stolen. Don't waste your time in peace rooms thinking you're safe cause your'e not. If something bad happens, it's not that you deserved it, it's just you failed to realize that Derro can and probably will steal said item from you in one of his characters.Learn from others being robbed and take notice.

That being said, how the hell does he manage to stay on the wanted board for such a short amount of time? A few days ago,I stole some scrolls back from him that he stole 1st and I was boarded well into the 3 hour block..had to have someone kill me so I could rent . And on top of that, the next day, I still get put in jail by the guard....

Mikey,

Not as so much as whining the hell out of everyone. I'm trying to understand
how he is getting away with it all. I asked yesterday night, how and what
he is doing that is different from just "renting" or "quiting". I mean did u
know if u "quit" u still keep all ur eq that you have equiped??? I don't
think even u knew this. Because from what Isbo said, u still keep all worn
eq when u "quit". Which is something I never knew for 6yrs of mudding.

Whining

Postby Daisy » Wed Oct 12, 2005 8:28 am

why is that the very few, and it does seem to me to be a very vocal minority, that try and defend pstealing seem to think they're in the majority?

From what I've seen pthieves are a nuisance minority, those supporting or defending them also very few. Is there any way we can start a poll?

They seem to feel they are in the right, and that any debate or discussion constitutes whining by a newbie minority.

I'll acknowledge that pstealing is allowed under current sloth rules.
I'll also acknowledge that the rules are unlikely to change any time soon.

This dosen't mean I like the rule or agree with it, but it does not also mean that I don't have a right to air my views on a public discussion board.

If you don't like what I or the others who dislike pthievery are saying then say so and tell us why, don't resort to accusations of newbism or whining. Its an opinion I'll hold now, and when I'm a veteran, its an opinion I can and have backed up with reason, that is not a definition of whining I recognise.

Further, when someone gossips '***** the pthief is on' this isn't whining (as someone got accused of recently) this is giving players a fair warning that someone wants to spoil their game and they should be careful.
Lots of Love,

Daisy

Well.. that's pretty much my whole argument. Thanks for saying it for me.

Here are your choices given the above:
a) Keep your inventory clean. Make smart choices about where and when you change equipment. Accept that thieves exist and plan accordingly. Laugh at their inability to affect your life in any way now that you've taken proper precaution. Wait for the thief to get bored and go away.

b) Give the pthief all the attention they're looking for by making as big a deal of it as humanly possible. Further motivate them to continue their activities by giving them that attention. Resist the need for precautions, making the pthief more effective. Call for players to state how much they dislike pthieves... giving them even more motivation to continue... dispite the fact that nothing is likely the change.

I think you've made the wrong choice.

Unfortunately Daisy, a well reasoned arguement with data to back it up automatically makes you the worst kind of whiner on slothmud. I have no idea why this mentality exists here, because it completely defies common sense or logic, but that is how it is - I know first hand. Basically, if you have two opposing opinions, party #1 having all the empirical data in the world and a rock-solid arguement, while party #2 has absolutely no evidence to back up their opinion whatsoever, and their idea of a fair discussion consists of name-calling, insults and calling the other party a bunch a whiners who can't hack 'it', then guess what? Party #2 will win every time here.

It's very frustrating, and I can understand your point, but it is highly likely you'll get nowhere with it except to end up holding a resentment, which really is going to be to sloth's detriment in the long run as you will be just one more person playing here who is now unwilling to help with the development of the mud, but hey, nobody gives a toss. Your suggestions, ideas and input are discouraged here, as ridiculous as that may sound.. - really it's a case of either accepting things as they are, or leaving. If I didn't have a better set of moral values, I'd be tempted to turn all my characters into pthieves and go loose just out of retaliation for some of the obtuse thinking I encounter here.. fortunately I'm not inclined to make innocent people suffer in order to vent my frustrations.
