stupid disease

Postby Weasel » Fri Jan 04, 2008 1:24 pm

For an hour and a half I had some unknown incurable disease that left me with 0 int and 7 wis (normally I'm at 18 for both). Detect disease could not identify it, dispel could not remove it.. now seriously, wtf is the point of that? In the end it took Krom casting a god-powered dispel on me to get rid of it, otherwise who knows how long it would've stayed. Even so, Krom could not identify what the disease was. Nobody online knew how to get rid of it or what it was either. With a regen rate that got down to 5, it made game play virtually impossible.

Now this may be a bug, but I suspect it's just another one of these 'features' that make no fapping sense whatsoever. Why not just force my char to rent and ban me for a few days - same effect. Honestly, get phukt.

there somewhere was a potion named 'panacea'. probably it should work.
potion goes from some kind of quest but you can redo it again and again.
if you want to brew some you have to find the mob in hospital who will help you

Thanks Vixn. Anyone know any more about it (panacea) - I've got it again... gonna rent and come back tomorrow and see if it's gone.. sucks.

p.s. the resist disease clasp doesn't work very well does it...

p.p.s. was also mentioned that 'cleanse' might be worth trying.. but no monks were on of that level, so again.. stupid fapping disease! I wanted to keep mudding, but this just killed it. Nice one.

It appears cleanse doesn't fix it either. Once again an immort had to log on to remove it (thank you). Renting and coming back 8 hours later doesn't remove, and it doesn't wear off online within the first few hours at least either, if ever.

I have not tried panacea - once I got the disease it kinda became pointless playing - taking a half hour or more to regen is silly.

Please do something about this unknown disease, at the moment all it does it stop people playing. I got the disease in Island Forsaken Swamp probably.

I'd just like to add my weight (65kg) to weasels argument. (Even though with a name like weasel... I guess your asking to be diseased, stupid little rodents)

Sloth is a game (), and it's there for enjoyment, and when annoying things like that disease stop someone's game play, it destroys the very thing that the game is there for. Hello, busted forge... lost con... (When some product busts at my work... at least 75% of the product can be re-used... why are we busting everything in a busted forge? Why do I fail more casting spells in Sloth than I do doing everyday things in real life?)

I think the disease thing is fairly lame at sloth. Something weird happens, you check you got disease, you remove it and thats that. All the disease thing does is annoy and waste mana, it's pretty pointless. I read rujo's scripts tonight and there are triggers to auto cure diseases... it just kind of makes diseases kind of pointless.... that is to say they can be instantly diagnosed and cured in most cases... which begs the question... why have them there are all?

Things that improve sloth aren't stupid "reality checks" like this... things that upset and pointlessly annoy... sure, make things a challenge, make things fun, but don't destroy game play.

Maybe the disease thing as a whole needs a look at? Why not have healer mobs that cure for some coins? Erm, yeah just think... how can we actually make something like diseases... actually ADD to gameplay instead of subtract from it. I'm not saying get rid of diseases... I'm just saying it's pointless in the way it works and it's implementation...

How about an infirmary? What about having mobs in towns run away screaming from you if you have disease? How about making them contagious! How about being kicked out of town until your cured... I don't know... use your imaginations, there are a lot of good gags that could be had with diseases instead of this pointless one dimensional gameplay punishment.

There is a whole "social" side of having a disease that could really be exploited... I'd find it funny to see Bal Harbor citzins running with AFFECT_FEAR when a diseased ~PIRATE~ walks down the street. It gives me something to gossip, someone to heckle. Something to make us laugh, instead of cry when we have a disease. How about a leper colony for lepers? Nice area idea I guess. You must be a leper to enter, and you can't regen while you're there... Get what I'm saying?... having a disease can be worked to ADD to game play instead of just being mostly pointless like it is now.

You've clearly never been in a group that has hack. Players infect players, it's fun. :) So is watching 10 people cough simultaneously.

I don't understand why people are kvetching about diseases. They're a hassle, yes, but they add some flavor to the experience. Personally, I enjoy finding out I have a disease by teleporting to some random mob in a hostile area.

And personally, I laugh when someone doesn't write a drink trigger to account for solstark. Noobs!

Just an FYI - the disease I had was buggy and has been removed for the time being.

True! I don't group much, I don't believe I have the knowledge (yet) of the game required to lead people to kill mobs that I can't run myself! All to often I find I can get xp faster solo, because of afker's, botters and well meaning leaders who pick wrong mobs for the group. Perfect scenario is to make friends with a > 3x40 and run along for a bit get there sanct, heals and refreshes, or get a lvl 20 from vk to do the same to me. Seems pointless to join a clan... I don't think I've seen a "Clan Group" since I've returned to the game.

I don't claim to know that much about sloth, but I don't let that stop me making suggestions or ideas for improvement... it does get embarrasing when they are already in game and I didn't realise though... Thx Van. I'm not against diseases either, just think weasel got a raw deal, and some diseases are just silly and pointless.
