Resist cold?

Postby Shara » Sun Dec 18, 2005 10:54 pm

I was identifying stuff recently and poking around and got a bit confused...

Red minidemons resist fire by 10.
Ring of white fire resist fire by 10.
Chunk of troll skin resist fire and cold by 10.

Flaming cloak of the underworld resist cold by 1?
Purple minidemon also resist cold by 1!
And ring of blue ice resist cold by 1.

Is this intentional?

No. It used to be that "resist cold by 1" was the "resist cold" spell, which was a flat 50% and did not stack with other resist cold items. We changed it a few months back; now it stacks, and so we made the number be the % resistance. Apparently we missed a few items; generally it should be 10% or 20% per item. (The stacking formula is complicated; the %'s don't add, they apply successively, so two 10% resists resist 10% of the base damage and then 10% of what's left for 19% total resistance).

We should fix those; I fixed the ones you mentioned. I'm not sure that the brooches will auto-update, though, you might need a new brooch to get the benefits. If your brooch still identifies as +1, contact an immortal to exchange it for a new one.

Bands should be fixed (+10) next time you log in.

Edit: I just went through the eq list here on the website and made sure everything marked as resist cold was a reasonable value now. I think with a full set of anti-cold eq and a resist cold spell, you could get 90%+ resistance.
