Downtime

Postby *Splork* » Wed Nov 09, 2005 7:26 pm

Our motherboard on the game server blew, so the hosting company needed time to replace it(Once they found out). I was out of town at the time so didnt hear about it till somebody called me, I notified Jake asap and he put the ticket in. Game fixed, etc...

Sorry for the late explanation...

Enjoy,
Splork

All fixed? Nice!

Thx Splork and Jake for your time, money and effort into running sloth!

Take our sometimes "ungreatful whining" attitude as a sign of how much we really do love playing slothmud! :)

I Blame Splork

Postby dt » Wed Nov 09, 2005 9:04 pm

Fact 1 -- Splork just 'happens' to be out of town
Fact 2 -- The 'motherboard' just happened to blow a fuse

Conclusion ------>

I Blame Splork :twisted:

I was out of town too, strangely enough. That was some timing.

Thanks, Splork, Jake, KJ, et al.

Not sure who is handling the game financials or by what
method. Should I be concerned?

jake and a few kind people are providing the money for us to have this game for free. they pay for the server and the costs to keep the website and game hosted. so be nice and vote, will ya? it's a tiny way to say thanks for all they do for us.
Yeah bringing you another disturbing creation from the mind of one sick animal who can't tell the difference and gets stupified.

Well... Jake, Splork, Kj, Downtime, bitching etc.... we know everything about all these and there is nothing to discuss here...
Jake is a nice guy, who presented us this game;
Splork is Splork... I will always blame him and I think he will never care about that :), nevertheless, he I think he proved to be better than I was thiking about him;
KJ... I dont know anything about KJ except the fact that he does exist, and he codes a lot...
Downtime... downtimes were, downtimes are, downtimes will be... WE NEED THEM! since, they are a good reason to return back to RL...
bitching... bitching is a part of this game. Let it be...

hm... and here is the IDEA!
We have:
1. The entire magic is separated to different strata...
2. We have some "special" days like fargate, nocap, etc.

I think it would be nice to have some more special days, which may be not scheduled... the days when this or that stratum is STRONGER (spells cost less mana, duration of spells is longer, restores heal better, winds hurt hader, etc.), the days when this or that stratum is WEAKER (countereffects), and the days when this or that stratU does not work (just imagene the day when no1 can raise :))!

It may be not entire day (24 RL hours), but can be connected with inner slothmud time... like 1 inner slothmud week...

oppinions?

I think it'd just be easier to create a day when the entire mud (except Valk) is flagged as a wild magic zone. I think I'd pretty much stay on Valk if that ever happened, unless xp or gold or something was raised accordingly.

Is 12345 afraid of creating a lump of coal :)

I do like the idea of adding wacked things into the system. But it would
be some work to code it all. Something that I think Ricky isn't going to
put on the top of his $hit list.

There is no reason to be concerned about our server. We are hosted by a professional hosting company on a dedicated server. The cost is mostly covered by the creators.

Ofcourse, crazy things like the motherboard blowing or being hacked are bound to occur :twisted:

Enjoy guys,
Splork

Btw, I really like Gnu's idea.

Those special events could be related to something in-game.

Example: an item held by some mob somewhere on BH is disrupting all magic on that island.....until the mob is killed and device junked...."bad" effects will be in-game.

Umm.. you seriously think having 'weak' days, or wild magic days or days where all raises fail is going to be a good thing? Personally I think all it would do in most cases is cause the players to logoff and come back the next day.. not really a good idea imho.

Honestly, I was thinking about something more simple like in the
Day of the Bull The 8th day of the Month of the Shadows, the power of shadows is extremly strong and the stratum of Necromansy is strong too, but healing stratum becomes weaker... Another day of Unicorn provides extra power for Healing stratum, the second week of the month of Stone Golem makes the stratum of ENHANCEMENT more powerful than in any other day...

Of course, all these switches to special days should not happen often, or they will entirely ruin the game.

It's just the idea, it has many gaps and weak places... but anyway thanx for descussion :)

np :) if it's a helpful (advantageous) effect, then everyone will love it of course.. but if it's detrimental to gameplay, then ya just know people aren't going to take well to it, that's really all I was saying - not meant to be a put-down or anything. hehe.
