Stats, rerolling, and tokens

Postby *Splork* » Thu Apr 16, 2009 2:13 pm

Sadly, we have found some flaws regarding the stats being rolled at level 8 and by triangular tokens in general. Due to this, please refrain from hunting tokens, rerolling, or any other effort being spent in this direction.

We are knocking heads right now trying to come up with a solution that will hopefully satisfy most of our players. There is a strong possibility that we are going to have to reset everyone's stats and start over. If we are forced to take this step we will try to accommodate everyone with some rerolls and hopefully balance everyone out. If this occurs, we will be upping the amount of rerolls each individual gets from 5 to 10 to choose from upon ur next prime level gain.

Im sorry,

Enjoy,

small point but "next prime level up" how does that affect lvl 20 primes that don't want to leave vk yet?

other than that loving discovering the new features of S4 ... good and bad is all fun

Not sure how many have said it yet but thanks for all your hard work.

Don't be sorry.. going through reroll hell again was one of my considerations when deciding to return or not...

BTW, Shaun White Snowboarding is not compatible with Vista 64-bit, even in compatibility mode. Grrr. Just thought I'd throw that in...

After further investigation, its been found that there is no need to reset anyone's stats.

The idea behind triangle tokens is going to continue, they will most likely reward you with playable stats.

I think the tokens are fixed incor. Here is the plan:

tri tokens will now work for everybody. They will generally give you decent stats that you can play for now, and if you roll 10 or 20 of them you might get something you'd be willing to keep if you aren't too ambitious.

hex tokens are going to be just like they were.

oct tokens are going away.

Using some arbitary definitions, here are what I think the odds are for various categories of stats with hexes: terrible 1 in 3, barely playable 1 in 4, playable for now 1 in 3, good 1 in 10, very good 1 in 15, great 1 in 200

and with the new tris: terrible 1 in 25, barely playable 1 in 3, playable for now 1 in 2, good 1 in 7, very good 1 in 50, great 1 in 25000

So, if you're looking for what I described as "very good" or better, roll hexes; otherwise roll tris and you should get something decent pretty quick. If you roll hexes and run out of hexes when you have garbage stats, roll a tri or two and you should be ok to play.

Oh, hi mud! I'm still here.

I think there is also a high probability that kj is awesome.

In response to Weasel;

There really should be no reason a player has to enter reroll hell in this version of SlothMUD. We have put a ton of thought into this part of the game.
A player will get playable stats right at level 8 for the most part. After that, as Kj said, if you decide to roll a hex, simply keep a tri token with you in case you get a bad roll. The triangle token can they be used to get decent and playable stats to recover from that.

As well, hexes yield a pretty good shot at getting good to decent stats now also.

Enjoy,

I personally think it's the best version of rerolling system we could ever dream about. And thanks much for keeping stats w/o reset.

That system sounds much improved, although maybe oct tokens via drachma shop with increased dice?

..err ..is there still a drachma shop?

..must.. [i:933v97jp]*grunt*[/i:933v97jp] ..extract ..self.. [i:933v97jp]*strain*[/i:933v97jp] ..from ..mud.. [i:933v97jp]*grrahhh!*[/i:933v97jp] [b:933v97jp]*POP*[/b:933v97jp]

..whew, that was close.

Tri tokens and single sided die have had their ranges for which they roll stats upped slightly. We have noticed the stats werent giving out exactly what we wanted and have made the proper adjustments. These adjustments benefit you.

Enjoy,
Splork

The changes will be in next crash or reboot.
