random comment about Australia, where art thou Jezer?

Postby Tap » Thu Oct 30, 2008 8:02 pm

I caught the tail end of a conversation on the radio today regarding something about Australia blocking internet content blah blah. Is this something that has happened rather recently or has it already been in place for awhile. Just curious, the story being reported was that US was already headed in this direction to censor a huge amount of websites currently availible. All part of the Fairness Doctrine would-be king Osama has already stated it would the one of many changes he would immediately implement. This along with his 250,000 "volunteer peace force" that will match the strength of the army. The same army he is also planning on budget cutting by 25%. Good times!!!!

I swear the only news tap reads is about Australia :D

Where do you find this stuff? No, not heard of this story either... although I quite believe the "censorship ideas" have been kicked around by a few politicians. Recently the government provided free web filtering software for those who wanted it, on a "here it is if you want it/download it free basis"... but once again you've lost me. :)

Of course, if you were being censored you wouldn't even know it. Oh well..ignorance is bliss.

ISP's won't support it, neither will majority of Australia. Our prime minister likes himself too much to have the public hating him. Only people in favor probably be some unmarried lady politician who coincidentally can't use a computer, or has two brain cells to rub together to produce a s p a r k of intelligence to understand the costs and opposition of such a plan.

I mean who is putting forward the plan... "Doreen and Wal of South Australia... sponsored by the local Methodist church?" Typical of the stories Tap spends his time dredging for on the internet to mix with his half truths and biased point of views.

If this had any chance of getting off the ground, we would of heard about it from the media... who are well know as being outspoken about there freedom of speech... and since we haven't... guess the idea is just that... and they aren't seeing it as a creditable threat to even put in the mainstream media.

Plans like this get talked about all the time in practically all western countries... they rarely get off the ground... although I have to admit, they get closer and closer each time... :?

This is for Tap... Straight from the web page of the current Government... what you heard on the radio was probably scare mongering by free speech groups. The government says you can opt out or in... but of course... these people... whose favorite movie also happens to be conspiracy theory... are all worried about there rights...

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy today welcomed a report demonstrating advances in internet content filtering technologies.

“The internet is a wonderful tool that is delivering benefits to increasing numbers of Australian families but the Government wants to find ways to make it safer, particularly for children. This report will assist the Government to deliver on its election commitment to create a safer online environment,” Senator Conroy said.

Senator Conroy today released the findings of the report by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), Closed Environment Testing of ISP-Level Internet Content Filtering.

The report details the results of extensive laboratory tests into the current effectiveness of commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP) filtering products.

ISP filtering is one element of the Government’s $125.8 million Plan for Cyber-Safety which also includes education, international cooperation, research and law enforcement.

“The next step is to test filter technologies in a real world environment with a number of ISPs and internet users,” Senator Conroy said.

[b:3ddfyx9w]The Australian Government is committed to ensuring all Australian families can utilise ISP filters that block prohibited content as identified by the Australian Communications and Media Authority. Families should also be able to access filters that can be customised to block more material if they choose.[/b:3ddfyx9w]

Tests undertaken during the laboratory investigation found that the quality of ISP-level filtering technology has significantly improved compared with the technology used in a previous trial conducted in 2005.

“It is very encouraging to see that the industry has made significant progress with ISP filtering products and we are heartened that many of the products tested are commercially available, with many of them already deployed overseas,” Senator Conroy said.

The results in the ACMA trial were based on illegal and inappropriate content. The tests included filtering over and above simple black-list filtering, and the trial did not specifically test the impact of black-list filtering on its own.

“Filtering specifically against a black-list of illegal content as well as the ability to filter additional material will be one part of the upcoming pilot trial,” Senator Conroy said.

“We are interested to see the results of filtering in real-world conditions and I encourage ISPs to participate. This will enable the implementation of ISP filtering in Australia to be undertaken in an informed and effective way.”

An Expression of Interest request will be released shortly seeking participation in the live pilot from ISPs.

The ACMA report Closed Environment Testing of ISP-Level Internet Content Filtering can be accessed via the ACMA website:

Can't you see, it's an opt in safety scheme for families to protect children from pr0ns and dangerous people like you on the internet. Where is there a single scrap of evidence to say it's mandatory and being put in place for everyone? Your full of crap as usual.

I admit I am biased, I favor free speech. Sorry if you take offense to my half-truths but I wasn't stating a fact, just asking a question about something that I caught the tail end of a conversation. I thought perhaps since you were from Australia you might be able to clue me in. I'm surprised at the defensive stance you seem to have taken. What are YOU hiding? hmmmm..

Tap, you're anti-Obama, so of course everything you say has some dark ulterior motive. [i:32j5ozok]Anyone[/i:32j5ozok] whom is not voting Obama is not to be trusted, and therefore [i:32j5ozok]anything[/i:32j5ozok] you say is to be treated with the utmost suspicion and disdain, and responded to in a highly defensive manner.

Oh, and you're a racist too.

teehee.

Yes, very defensive... see you have a history...

You believed these lies about Australia in regards with guns and crime.
You've suggested pthiefs made players better.
Then your going down this line about Australia and censorship.

Basically you have this Australia thing going. You like to play the rogue, and you misinterpret facts... some people aren't to smart, and you word stuff like it's truth, it's dangerous... and ... and I'm going to police you!

If you want to take pot shoots at Australia or anything else, you'd better get your facts straight, because you seem to have this way of making all things state your own opinions, and it's just out and out crap/lies. Lying and misrepresentation really annoy me, so whether your just misinformed, playing the rogue or just lying... expect me to put you straight. I'm very defensive... but only cause history has shown your deviant form.

As opposed to comments made by weasel, who you know is either just troublemaking... or is not hearing you over the sound of how bad Obama is...

It's the way people put forward information, some ways are just slimey and devious, seemingly realishing the chance to see humanity fail, but pretending to be helpful while doing it. Something darker and deceptive that almost finds pleasure in the downfall... a little bit like...

Relish the chance to see humanity fail? You have me confused with those people who stocked up on toilet paper and water when Y2K was going to end the world. Fear is a funny thing, some people embrace it in hopes of bowing down and not being affected. Others, such as myself, fear the unknown especially when certain details make themselves availble. I fear for the future that my kids will have to face if certain aspects take place. As someone who loves life, when I am told that I will NOT be allowed to live that life ever again and that I have no say in the matter..well yeah...it does grab my attention. People are sheep for the most part..when they become complacent and lazy they turn a blind eye to the raging storm headed their way...well my friend...my eyes are open. I hope I am wrong about what I think is coming but if I'm right...well..I am going to do what I can to spread the message so hopefully others can prepare themselves.

ps-

[quote:3rlz7u2t]You've suggested pthiefs made players better. [/quote:3rlz7u2t]

Now who is the one misinforming. I have never suggested that. I've only suggested that they were a fun feature. I'm talking about the thief that actually stayed ingame and hid and darted around not the one that hid in a vault or found a way to "rent". And thats just an opinion, I was thinking along the lines of killing the occasional monotony. Hell, I bet some players enjoyed chasing down a pthief and smacking them around. Kind of like the fox and the chicken blah blah...

psps- Pthievery hasn't even been ingame in what 2-3 years?...Dude,let it go.
