Yeah, I guess you guys got points... an eq system based on honor points like it is now, may not work to well... but with changes It can! and it should! You don't HAVE to kill Atlas to get honor points...

If you don't mud much, tough luck, I doubt you got much drachma either... nor decent eq. But with that said I think Juggle favors the idea because Rub is probably already a major or something. :twisted:

Quest times, you can't do much about... We are all over the world... You can never please everyone.

Handling out EQ to let the players decide who get's it is a REALLY bad idea. I mean the game is made to encourage grouping, and then they do this thing that makes everyone fight and resent each other... and you expect grouping to still be fun and enjoyable afterwards when everyone hates each other? Scratching our backs with butchers knifes...

The other problem is say you random for quest eq... the mage gets the tank eq, and the tank gets the mage eq... whoops! Eq isn't a well suited reward for group quests. Eq is far better suited for auto's and forges. A points system such as drachma is far better suited.

Yes, put those quest eq's into the drachma shops, or make them gettable some other way! :)

This current quest may not suit a lot of people, but don't lash out at Toxis... cause then Toxis gets the attitude that Akasha has... and then we are all down the toilet! So thanks Toxis for putting this on! Next time I would not announce it so early... then this wouldn't happen... as much ;)

my2cents: Quests are meant to be fun.. and usually involve a lot of death if you're one of the chars up front.. and sometimes everyone gets nailed, but imho you should join a quest for the experience of questing itself, and if there's a reward at the end, consider it a bonus!

If there's gonna be a reward, then I think evenly distributed crackma has proved to be one of the best options, based on past history. Voting used to be good, until I started seeing quests where clans voted only for fellow clan members even if they did jack sh*t, while other players who contributed heaps went away with nothing but a feeling of resentment, so unfortunately that method is now rendered useless..

Personally I believe the leader always deserves something extra - organizing a group is a headache, especially a quest-sized group. I may be speaking with some bias, but I do believe the tanks deserve at least some recognition - sure it's a default position, but they get killed over and over and over and if they shock (which is bound to happen occasionally), that's one hell of a penalty just for being that prime class. There are always others who stand out through their knowledge of the mud, or their actions in the quest. Ultimately though, it should be up to the immort running the quest to decide who to reward, if anyone, and if you can't accept that, then don't join. Either that, or use the 'random' command for any eq - nobody can complain about unfairness then.

Re linking it to rank, sorry but I'm definitely not for that on a personal level. I stopped joining rank groups because almost every time I joined, I came out with at least 100mil less exp than when I started, if not several hundred mil exp lost. When you solo a lot, that is a significant hit. I believe it's not so bad anymore, but I've kind of missed that boat somewhat now. Making quest rewards (if any) link to rank would mean tanks getting doubly penalized just because they're a tank. Great if you sit lower down in the group order and don't die all the time I guess.. LOL.. you'd also be creating a "rich get richer, poor get poorer" effect, and those who might shine in quests may end up losing out because of something not even remotely related to the quest, the result - resentment.

All this talk about "hypothetical" quest eq is exactly why you're not likely to see any. But since y'all brought it up...

Honor is divied out like coins, everyone gets his/her equal share (just with rank based caps). Simply being part of the group certainly doesn't make you worthy of quest eq.

And I have to disagree with Weasel. Quests are usually very cool in concept but can be a pain in the azz--especially for whomever is leading. Always spammy, often lots of crashes and usually something goes wrong with a quest item, mob, etc. They are about the reward or the new area. Offer a quest with no reward or a flute or some garbage and see who lines up. Actually, that sounds like fun but it would be a grip of bored 5x40s.

It's a catch-22 really. If drachma is simply handed out in even numbers to everyone that participates, you'll see two to three people doing the lion's share of the work and the rest will be grateful. If you see quests that start offering quest eq rewards, you'll see people doing whatever they can to get their hands on it and the rest will whine relentlessly.

Maybe a high-quest, medium or low, few hard to get in game things (depending on the extent of the quest and participation) and a sprinkling of drachma for everyone.

Akasha to be honest I wasn't asking Tox to cough it up or something. I was just hoping that it can be understood that regardless of what was said above my post and your reply that everyone has expectations even if they're not questing. They join an eq group and know they're getting a chance of an item to pop for them as their call. The only difference in a quest and any other group is that the expectations level rises. We "quest" in expectation of a good new area, but usually as far as being rewarded characters who've had the opportunity to be in the quest always feel they're getting too small an award. You know if there was more than one piece of quest eq handed out there generally wouldn't be as much "bickering" as I think Juggleblood referred to it as. The last quest I was in was Baraneth's Cache some point at which the webpage became this format. I just don't get why there is so much quest eq (Teron's Nekode) for instance and people say it is rarely handed out. Since the last quest I was in I know of several nice items of real quest_low through quest_high eq that was handed out along with drachma and I haven't been involved in a single one of those quests. I mostly never hear about them, which is why I ask about Tox's plans on handing out items or if he's going to just kill us and put his area in and gloat a while, or sing crappy music or.. worse.

Quest Rewards

We've had this conversation so many times, it's funny to see it being discussed BEFORE the actual quest, rather than all the complaining that usually comes after a quest.

I've mentioned before that I totally support the drachma system. My advice would be to ban all new quest eq, and introduce those items as elite eq to the shops.

Quest eq invites resentment from other players because someone else has been rewarded (leader/tank) while you haven't (mage/cleric). The discrepancy between rewarded / not rewarded is very large.

With drachma, you can a) reward everyone and b) choose the size of the bonus awards. If everyone gets 50 dr then noone will be complaining when the leader / MVP gets 60 dr.

All that is really beside the point. If you join a quest you shouldn't expect ANY rewards. If you just want a reward, keep cycling your xp / eq or whatever. If you're thinking about rewards before the quest, you're missing the point.

Stepping into Dr. Phil's shoes for a moment, quest endings/rewards are easy and simple. First, if drachma is to be given out, it has been handed out equally for group effort. Secondly, and more to the point, let's say there 3 quest items to be handed out. Now instead of doing a popularity contest of group voting who should get what I recommend,instead, that leader OR Imm announces the item with stats (if not known) to be handed out. Now, in a group of 20+ players, some may and most probably all will vie for that quest item. The solution is that those interested in quest item random for item. In the case of a tie, the leftovers random again and so on and so forth until a clear winner for item #1 is determined. Repeat process for other items as well. I can almost hear it now.. well that's not fair... Player X tanked the entire time, shocked twice, he really,really deserves it and hell, he's a nice guy to boot... big friggin deal, he's a tank, that's his job. He is no more important that the person healing or the one stabbing. Some leaders have been fair in handing out quest gear but it can become a bitterfest, and usually does, when someone who contributed was completely left out of the loop.. all because he/she had lower levels.. not as affective heals/blasting etc etd. By allowing randoming to determine who gets what, it puts everyone on the same playing field.

Thanks Brad, was nice quest, lots of fun and no crushes.
Also area seems to be interesting and good for exp and sure we now have another way to waste time cycling pets for cps.
