[quote="alias":2iuol160]gratz on the bandwidth, its prob the best it will ever be. As soon others in your neighborhood start hooking up it will start dropping as cable is shared between everyone at the box. I would personally kill for 3Mbps dsl but alas Im stuck on 512 wireless until I move or die.

Thanks :) Fortunately I have what I guess equates to dedicated pipe bandwidth - it costs me an extra $10 a month, but it means there is a specified maximum number of connections allowed on this portion of the pipe in this area, so although there may be some speed reduction in peak periods, it'll never drop drastically - guaranteed minimum would be 15mbps, but that would be absolute worst case scenario and would be treated as service disruption almost (by the sound of it).. apparently around 25-27mbps at worst in peak periods could be expected. Drooling yet?

Had a couple classics

There was the good ole Commodore C-64 with the optional 1541 floppy drive(which took 10-15 min to read a 32k file).

and I even played around with the precursor to that, the Commodore VIC-20

Oh and lets not forget one magic word - BASIC
That which does not kill you makes you crazier.

very nice, not exactly sure why u want such a big pipe but it would be nice.
I don't have any applications that need more than what I have. Currently 512k w/ 1.3M burst. With this I can surf, mud, play online games while the wife streams 4 live cams on horses giving birth w/o problems...

I really don't know what I would do w/ that kind of bw unless I wanted to replicate servers across the country all the time, or maybe a frame relay for data backup storage for a company or 4.

enjoy the pipe sir but don't let your palms get too hairy

just remember 1 pair of bolt cutters can cut that line very easy and I can find out where you live.

LOL!
Yeah probably unnecessarily excessive bw, but sweet for d/l's and u/l's - there's 2 of us using the connection networked via hardwired router, and we both upload a fair amount as well as d/l. The IP appears to be static, so we could host our own server too...
If I don't pay the extra $10/month, then max speed is 15mbps (which is still awesome), but peak times can apparently drop significantly, and I heard reports that it can drop below 3mbps at extreme peak, which is the constant speed I had with DSL previously, so would not be so great..

Novelty has worn off a little now - just had to post when I first got it - could not believe how fast d/l's were. Apparently the connection is great for some of the more intensive online games too.

unless you paid for a static ip then its not, what happens is your router will request a renewal of your current ip from the dhcp server. If the power doesn't go out and you lose connection to the isp you will prob keep the same ip addy.

If you want to host a website or anything of the sort you could use
dynamic dns and it won't matter if you ip changes it will keep track and send people to the correct ip. its also free unless u need more advanced services.

Nerd ? yes but this is what I go to school for and enjoy it immensely.

Didn't pay for static, but just been away to Las Vegas for 5 days and had powered everything off.. IP still the same now we're back.

Looking online.. didn't realize, but I also get a good chunk of free hosting with full log access, cgi-bin, etc.. not that I need more hosting space.

Ok.. IP is not static unless I pay more, but will generally remain the same anyway for long periods of time, just not guaranteed.

Oh and yes, Dynamic Domain Name Server (DDNS) is available at no additional cost. Nice.

NZealand court sentences man after wombat rape claim

WELLINGTON (AFP) - A New Zealand man has been sentenced to community service after telling police he had been raped by a wombat and the experience had caused him to start speaking "Australian".

Arthur Cradock, a 48-year-old orchard worker from Motueka on South Island, rang police on February 11 to say he was being raped by the slow moving Australian marsupial at his home, The Nelson Mail reported.

He rang back soon afterwards to say he was withdrawing his complaint against the wombat, a court was told Wednesday.

"Apart from speaking Australian now, I'm pretty all right you know," he told police in the second call.

Cradock pleaded guilty to using a phone for a fictitious purpose and was sentenced to 75 hours community work.

Prosecutors said alcohol played a large part in Cradock's life, although his defence lawyer said he was not drunk on the afternoon of the phone calls.

hehe yeah funny as.. unfortunately the cops didn't find it amusing.
Btw we don't have wombats in NZ - they're native to Australia.

"using a phone for a fictitious purpose", they think of some great names for these minor crimes don't they.

Was pretty funny though.

Why don't the police catch a REAL criminal... ?

NZ actually has no native animals only native birds. Having lived in both NZ and Australia, I'd have to say NZ has more silly laws, but NZ stomps all over Australia in general.

Probably part of the reason why the guy claimed to get raped by a wombat, is because Australian's claim that NZ'ders rape sheep... So the guy was "returning fire" so to speak.

I've found Australian's far more racial... but I guess America is probably worse.
