SM SC ST SW [AND]

Postby Ender » Wed Sep 29, 2004 3:40 pm

Was running over the equipment list and was actually kind of surprised how often I tripped over this restriction, or something very close to it. Seems odd that with all the new classes we should still have some of the best equipment in the game restricted to only the original classes.

In the case of this particular restriction, it seems easy enough to change the restricts to NAv, or maybe something like NAv SW[AND] if you wanted to keep it restricted from quad casters. I don't think we have a restriction for 4x40 (which is very close to NAv), but even one for 3x40 SW [AND] is a little better than this, if less restrictive.

Either way, was curious for thoughts on the topic.

In pretty much all cases, the restriction on those items is now NAv. It's only been changed on the eqilst if I actually had confirmation about the new restricts.

Novice Avatar, or basically instead of an item being 4x40 and requiring all the old classes, the items are restricted to level 1 avatar.

Thanks Blackmore. Think the reason this originally hit me as odd was because I saw a few with *.

Then again, I've been known to hallucinate before.

diamond gauntlets

Postby doug » Thu Sep 30, 2004 9:05 pm

One of the things I would really like to see is a either/or option put on some older eq.

So like if it says 40 ma/28 th/ 40 cl/ etc...
It would be nice if you could set a flag so that this was interpreted as mage or necro, th or monk, etc....

Things like the restricts on this item seem unreasonable, and I doubt it would have been the intent of the imm at the time and it has not been updated.

Object 'gauntlets diamond studded con forge', Item type: ARMOR
Item is: GLOW MAGIC
Weight: 12, Value: 375000, Worn in: TAKE HANDS
AC-apply is -0.3
Can affect you as:
Affects: CON by 1
Affects: HITPOINT by 5
Only those who are at least experienced magic users and also experienced
clerics, and experienced thieves, and master warriors may use this item.

I don't know what you could do for some of this stuff. So far my best thoughts have been to use more generic restrictions. For instance:

Wa = NC, Th = NC, Mo = NC, Cl = Ca, Mag = Ca, Dr = Ca, Ba = NC/Ca

Then you could have restricts such as:
SNC MNC [AND] for somthing like a big sword
2x40 4xCa [AND] for something like a +3 manaregen bracelet.
4x20 2xNC [AND] for the stuff that's currently EW WT EC EM [AND].

Of course, Bard presents a problem, because I have difficulty calling it either a caster or non-caster. Making it both would create some interesting equipment possibilities since a [Dr Ma Mo Ba] could then use both 2xNC or 3xCa equipment. Then again, you could just call that a benefit of the Bard class and move on... dunno.

Either way, there's a lot of equipment. Finding a 'best' solution would appear challenging.
