restring mob?

Postby Alberich » Sun Sep 09, 2007 12:21 pm

don't know if this would be possible or not, but it would be pretty nice if some mob (say one of the weaver mobs) could do restrings - ie give the mob a token, eq and coins, it asks what you want for held/floor/keyword descriptions, and then makes you the item. would probably save imms time, and then we wouldn't have to try to track someone down :)
Don't be stupid - we have politicians for that

People will hide stolen/duplicated/etc items using this mob. Well, actually people can do that atm but they need to have friendly immortal to do that.

Would be nice to see, but another issue is that immorts only want restrung eq names to be in keeping with the theme of sloth apparently (ie: restrung foot eq 'a pair of Doc Martens' is not allowed, unfortunately). Automating restrings would take away that level of control from them, so can't see it happening.

I've seen this done on other muds. They simply restring the name (not key words or desc or anything else) and it is a temp restring. Then when the char logs out/in it would revert to original string. Immorts can restring items for free and even make them perm, so where is the threat?

You know about existing restring tokens, right? In sloth they are pretty rare and hence I guess a status/style points kind of thing to have personally restrung eq, as opposed to everyone renaming thier eq to whatever.. they used to be earned occasionally in quests etc, although you can now buy them at the drachma shop too.

As far as the names go, it was an immort decision to keep them somewhat sloth/mud-oriented - I really liked my Doc Martens for the little time I had them, but then I had to change them back again.
I was a sad weasel.
But that's ok, I still have ATTITUDE ...not to mention DOOM.
