Warrior Skills

I'd like to be able to do more when I'm tanking than auto crits/auto ripostes... and for the warriors in groups that aren't tanking I had some ideas and hopefully someone thinks their cool, because every tank knows it can get boring to tank. You can't flee to debuff or save someone's ass, you gotta sit there and take it like a.. tank.

wa: shield block - takes a whole round of attacks for the whole group. This skill should do around 200 to 500 damage, or perhaps just a regular attack from the mob. Good to use if protects gets screwed cuz someone dead/missing, or if tank is dying.

wa: impale - used with great spears. Acts like a deathblow, Impales mob right through its body. With impale, you could do normal damage (or close to that of a kick) but has 20% damage to do 3x damage.

wa: chop(for lack of a better name) - used with great axes. Acts like a deathblow. With chop, you could do normal damage (or close to that of a kick) but has 25% chance to stun the mob or do 3x damage.

Just remember, you can only riposte with a sword, so swords would still be used for the tank.

wa: leap - leap from adjacent room and attack with all attacks plus a % to deal a massive hit which stuns the mob for one or two rounds, takes 60 moves and has 2 round lag time. Can hit wounded mobs. This would be useful for mobs that still hate the group. The tank could leap in, try to stun the mob so the group can follow and finish off the mob.

wa: tend wounds - 21 level warrior skill that heals wounds. heals anywhere from 5-20 hp, but has a lag time of 3 rounds and can only be done while resting. You must also have bandages in inventory, which would be bought at the store for a price of 1000 gold.

Impale/Chop = Warriors can Frenzy and Bersek. Who wants to use a
spear that would be 2handed and lose a -1.1 shield. Also don't forget
warriors only class that has a 3rd attack, which can add a good amount
of damage. Sharpen ... weapon dam :)

Leap = reminds me of Diablo Warriors that can leap attack. Sounds ok,
Warriors have "Charge", but I can see how some people with abuse it
by attacking the mov with the same move over and over.

Tend Wounds = Have warrior sleep or rest, as alot of tanks now have Monk.
They just need to "rest" and get about 5hp a second anyways. 3 rounds
of lag sucks, and is about what ... 2-3 seconds? Or without monk, sleep.

Warriors may seem to be a boring class, but you picked it. The are just
suppose to stand there and get beat on. They do alot of damage, some
more then monks (by just matching warrior's AC monks does less due to
sword, sharpen, frenzy). (Again ac-10 monk compared to ac-10 warrior)
I think it all depends on how you look at a warrior, if u get bored type
stomp, bash, or kick.

Well that was short and to the point. Not bad idea's but anything of those caliber should be warrior prime AND/OR tank only.I say this because otherwise at 20-25% chance of doing 3x normal damage, you would have 8-10 groupmembers spamming <special skill> because 1-3 would be doing 3x normal damage per round thus giving an unfair advantage.

MOB's Rule

#1) I'd like to see dodge work with parry and be both a mo AND wa skill

#2) 2hand weapon proficiency, for wa prime only, that bestows a .8 or .9ac
to a wa prime that uses a 2hand weapon to help make up for the 1.1ac
shields; add more skills to 2hand weapons like disarm, thrust, spin attack
(examples); this would give the non-tanking primes a way to do more
damage in groups without becoming too crunchy...

So now you need more than -15 ac? Be a tank or not.
The perfect blend of poetry and meanness..

1) If dodge worked with Parry/Counter it would be way over board for
warriors. Maybe just to see dodge work better in general?

2) Diablo 2LOD, "Spin Attack" = Whirlwind :) Plus Warriors have that skill
its called flail. They spin their weapon around the room, but its a crappy
skills. Also to add ac for 2hand weapon??? Warriors has an option to pick,
damage over ac.

Tank skills

Postby Avatar » Mon Aug 20, 2007 5:02 pm

It's silly for tanks to ask for new skills now. We have Warcry, 2 Oaths, Defy Pain, Frenzy, Deathblow, Trip, Bash, Stomp, Flail. Those all make tanking a lot more fun and interactive than it used to be...and they're all useful at one time or another... ok except for Flail.

2-Handed weapons: I don't care to have any extra AC, but having some Two handed weapons that are worth using would be nice. I don't mind taking some penalty to AC to do more damage, if I'm a 2. or 3. warrior, but at this point it's not even possible. Valor does more damage than any 2-handed weapon in game.

I actually brought this up at some point ... Valor seems to be a big sword.
Why not have a skill for warrios to be able to use any weapon into a two-
handed weapon? Just remove a shield and whatever the weapon the
Warrior is using just add 2 dice and +hits?
ex...
Valor = 4d5 +1+2, remove shield = 6d5 +2+2
3x40 Axe = 5d5 +5+0, remove shield = 7d5 +6+0
Blue Glass Dagger = 3d4 +3+0, remove shield = 5d4 +4+0

Now ... this would cause some issues with Thiefs with stabs. So maybe
two handed will not work with any backstabs weapons or if using
stabs, it will go back to the original dice.

A significant number of those skills are good for 2.tanks or lower, but as 1.tank the lags on many of them interfere with reporting health, which then leads to.. death. Defy pain can only be used once a day (in real time, not mud time), so although it can certainly be a boon when used at the right moment, it can't be considered as part of your regular running skillset because, well, it isn't. Berzerk takes off 2 entire ac points, so again, out of the question for 1.tank, although frenzy is a handy little bonus. Oaths.. well what can I say.. protection is protection, and victory is a nice bonus, and hey, you can look at your score and see how much honor you have too. Weee.

Stomp is a challenge just to get an opportunity to use it, so yeah, as you said, Warriors have become a bit more interesting and fun to play.

Deathblow is worth it just to see the mobs get gutted..

Damn, I forgot what my point was again. Seem to be doing that a bit lately..

Stance the Man

Postby Tap » Mon Aug 20, 2007 7:08 pm

Warrior Skill -- Stance

This would allow a warrior to really dig in his heels preventing said warrior from being pushed and/or tossed. Also a bonus savespell to the 'fear' spell.

Unless I'm wrong isnt that pretty much what entrench does? Not sure about the extra save against fear, but I'm pretty sure about the rest.
That which does not kill you makes you crazier.

Possibly, I must confess I don't have that skill so it could be the same.
