Supplication

Postby Malison » Thu Mar 29, 2007 2:06 am

I've been trying out a lot of my newly acquired supplicants in the last few days, and got to the Thunderbird. According to the 'monograph on supplication'...

"The Thunderbird can be used as transport, even between the multiple
islands and continents of the world."

This is a really cool-sounding ability, even looking through the old forum posts and seeing it described as slow. But unfortunately the thunderbird gives no clue as to how it works. It took some time to figure out to enter the stupid thing instead of trying to mount like any other sort of thing you'd get on to go somewhere, and then you go to flailing about for how to get the dumb bird to move. In fact, the thing disappeared before I could figure out how to get it to move.

It seems to me it wouldn't be too difficult to get all supplicants with special abilities to announce how to use them, like nightmares do with "Order me to trouble someone."

PS - 1 if anyone does remember how to do this, I'd love to know. I couldn't find
- 2 Qilin and Deva are missing from the monograph on supplication
- 3 Drangr, Succubus, Incubus, Leviathan, Ghul, Asura, Behemoth, and Pit Fiend are missing from the monograph on the lower planes.

This won't be helpful but perhaps it will jog someone's memory.
I'm fairly sure you tell it to go to other continents by saying something,
but darned if I can remember what it was. Something like
say go to continent.. but apparently that was not it.

I'm pretty sure it was 'order thunderbird go <somewhere>' but I haven't been online and can't check this myself.

say 'bird go ss' or 'go ss', I don't remember exactly - haven't played with it for a year, and haven't played at all for months. :)

The owner can direct it while on its back like this:

say bird go bh
say bird go atwell

The former command takes you to BH recall. In the latter case, it takes you to Atwell, who needs to be outdoors and gateable.

Incidentally, last I tried, only one player can board it at a time now. I wasn't sure whether this was a bug or a new, intended limitation.

The one-player bug is fixed.

I also made the thunderbird a little easier to command: it now responds to tell, say, order, and it gives some response if it doesn't understand you.

Muchthanks to Kj for the fix, and how fast the last bug with it was worked out (tested with 1 bird, and we still had time to reloc with it before it melted).

Some things I noticed since then that may or not have been intentional:

While walking around on the island, the bird followed me around as normal, but in the middle of the run it dumped Elwin and Cauliflower, who were still on it, in the sea. Just thought it was odd that instead of a dropping action it was more like catapulting them...we were about as far inland as you can be on the island.
Thunderbird doesn't respond to call followers. It did before the fix, so I'm guessing it wasn't supposed to and that it was corrected to be this way. If I'm wrong, that'll be even sweeter.

lol

I lost my connection for about an hour right after boarding the bird. I came back with 1hp 1ma 1mv. I thought that was odd but now I find out I'd been dumped in the sea. :)

well actually that wasn't the drowning part. it seems the sea is gateable, so we pushed you back to land and you voided out inside thal palace. the coming in at 1 1 1 was probably a 'you were voided too long' proc
