Warrior Skill Suggestion

Postby Gimlet » Sat Feb 17, 2007 6:08 am

Here's a suggestion for a new warrior skill

(1)Human Shield
______________

very often during battles, we've seen clerics not be able to keep up on heals for one reason or another (lag, botting, mob hitting hard suddenly, aegis fell, etc.) This skill allows the tank to temporarily avoid being hit for a few rounds while the group fixes lite or whatever, by pulling the 2.tank in front of him to be hit by the mob. Of course, if the tank is point, the mob will try to get to him, and eventually succeed. It's silly to see a tank go splat when the group has mana, or to see 2.tank only come into play if the tank dies.

maybe we could have some penalty for using the skill, on top of the usee not being able to do anything while cowering behind his human shield

Wouldn't dropping prot on 2.tank have essentially the same result?
Or even having 2.tank rescue 1. after that.

Oh wait...that involves people other than the tank paying attention, so it's just a skill to enable botting.

rescue lags are bad

Back in the day, we had rescue orders for almost exactly this reason.

It still works, but is quite a bit harder and nearly impossible to pull off in an extreme emergency. What you really need is a skill that allows you to retreat off point so that someone CAN rescue you.

only way I can see this is if the 2.tank has to invoke it, although it would be a great way to kill 2.tank if you didnt like them.

maybe 2.tank uses it and it causes 1.tank to drop prot but not lose point (or maybe they lose point too). then when 1.tank is lit/whatever he would have to reprot and rescue to make it go away.

2.tank is a pretty thankless slot most of the time. they do take quite a few hits and rarely get any love from the healo (or maybe thats just what I see in rr since he can heal himself, healo did a great job keeping thump alive in the 2.tank slot the other night)

Back when i was a kid, we had to walk 5 miles uphill in the snow, with no shoes to get to school.

i think the skill you're looking for is called 'take it like a man'
you're a tank so stfu and die already.

Just a quick note, it's usually easiest to ask one of the healers for a heal or two before you (the 2.tank) die. I'd ask for one specific person to send a heal, if he doesn't respond ask a different person. Otherwise, either several people will send a heal and overheal, or everyone will assume someone else will heal then noone does. Also, if you wait until right after a round of combat before sending a grouptell, the person has a better chance of noticing and reacting. All that said, I try to pay attention to random hits and group hps, and toss a heal when necessary.

I'm not trying to imply that you need these tips RR, but they might be useful for newer players.

When I'm 2.tank and getting low on HP (and I've run out of mana for self-healing) I usually pop a 'report' command through.. the couple of people who notice the 'report' will usually shoot me the one or two restores I need to get healthy, without overhealing. If that doesn't work I might mention it in grouptell, but that can lead to overheals (I hate seeing mana wasted), altho once is usually enough for some kind person to inform me that I can tell them 'heal' or poke them or something similar to get a triggered heal.

My thinking when I designed tinct was that wa/cl would be a good second tank - and I backed this by buying ancient sensate for his ac gear. I've since learned the many shortcomings in this plan, but picking a 2.tank who can look after himself heal wise, and not giving him any other responsibilities might be a good move
The man was either mad or both.
