Keyless entry to vault changes

Postby Shyla » Sat Dec 09, 2006 2:25 pm

I would like to know what the official rules are regarding the changes to keyless entry. Nothing has been officially posted anywhere about it yet , But I have been told by 2 different people whose vaults I have access to that they were told they have to change it. Why have somethign about keyless vault entry for 3 mil if you aren't going to actually allow it? Can an immort that changed this please post what the official changes are and why they were made?
Thanks

I dont know how imms feel but I think its crap to have public access regen rooms. If the vault in question is such a big deal pay the 1m for a key. There are too many people abusing the keyless entry.

Just fyi i payed the 1 mil for the key and the 3 mil for keyless so i can get in without having to get keychain out of my robe which then can be stolen. Or for times when i die and need to get to an emergency key i might have vaulted

Maybe immorts could make the vault areas - or at least the rooms outside vaults - no steal? Considering how much is being paid for vaults, you'd think there'd be a little security built in too. The way things are at the moment means there is no way of entering a vault without exposing yourself to pthieving. At least make it an option to purchase that kind of security for an extra mil or something..

Alternatively, have a forged or drachma pouch for keys that is no-steal, and you can carry them in your inventory and not have to take the keys out of them in order to unlock doors..

..even better make it a clasp that attaches to the forged keychain.. now THAT would be an excellent item to have.*

Yeah, Shyla donated 4 mil to our clanhall because there's a few of us that use it and we frequently offload lots of items while regenning or renting there. She likes to pop in and retrieve spellbooks that other folks might find useful from time to time.

At the moment we're using a clandoor, but since she's not clanned she's kinda in the cold. We're seeing if the door can be modified to recognize people with keys as well.

Didn't someone just get their keychain stolen as recently as last week?

Keychain was from Rub that was stolen. However I believe some1 found
it... *shrug*

Aa, the clan door was an issue because 1 non-clan went in to regen. (from
what I've heard) Then another non-clan person went in and area blast
and almost killed the non-clan in the regen room. This caused an issue n

Yeah but I seriously doubt that it was as he was getting it out to unlock the vault door. The way I see it, the answer is easy:

Don't give out your entry keywords and you won't find shitheels fighting in your vault.

Keyless Entry to Vault Changes

Postby Ker » Sun Dec 10, 2006 12:39 pm

Greetings,

I don't really participate in forum gossip nor do I really care much but since it looks like I may have been the cause to this, so here goes.

Leaf posted-

To be straightforward, it was a slight dispute between me and SlotherA. I dont go around hurting nor provoking another fellow slother for the hell of it. There were reasons and such therefore one thing led to another of words and actions and in the end resulted at ds's regen room. It would have appeared a chase and run fun, maybe not to SlotherA. Or maybe SlotherA's title would have, maybe not to me. I have no business whatsoever entering into ds's regen room really. I and SlotherA ran the whole of lyme town, yes was fun :) Then SlotherA sends private tells like "Come get me now if you can and try harder newb" furthermore hides in ds's regen room. Then and only then, I entered and yes, they call it firestorm. No deaths occured, was just plain fun to the far extent. Anyway anyhow, "almost killed" stated by leaf seems blatant and funny enough. I've yet to actually "kill" or "pkill" anyone on Sloth dating far back to 99', by far it's rude yes. I enjoy the rush when you have to chase and hunt one down, or same goes the other way vice versa. Of course I just dont go and do for the hell of it. It may not be fun to others but relentlessly, I don't start something amiss then lead on to another. Pure fun, adrenaline rush bla bla bla. What others are there besides grouping and killing! But anyway, lets not get side tracked.

"This caused an issue n now Immorts wants to change all houses ..."

The way I see this, the only reason why this would occur would have to be of one's disliking, perhaps certain members of a clan's vault, when a stranger appears in one's vault. I'm pretty sure there were consequences when keyless entry came about, just not in a very nice way right up until now, I don't know. And there comes the whining and bitching to an Admin, and therefore results to this. What I personally think? Bullshit :) Keyless entry regardless, it's the option they provide, chosen and utilized.
I don't see any reason why an Admin should bother or waste time changing it. Maybe one who has Imm access and cries foul, oh cry other people are there too, what if I affect others due to it being public. Oh cry, get the IP's and ban the fellow idiot.

I'm a nice guy really, ask around. It's just when someone starts me and furthermore lingers on. Potrays how I go about real life heh. I've spoken to SlothA, apologized and sloth is all the same. What aa said, no idea how nomic got in there but anyway.

Cheers.

Keyless entry isn't a big thing if you can keep it under control. When it became blatantly obvious that the entire mud knew our password 2 days after we received it, we made plans to change it. Not that we don't love you all, but it was kinda expensive and folks treating it like just another area of the mud kinda defeats the purpose.

With so many clannies, it's pretty obvious that we're not going to be able to keep any password under wraps for long, so we're going with another method now.

As far as clasps, I suppose you can do it if you want, but right now the imms have it set up so that if you're willing to spend enough coins, you can set up pretty much anything you want for entry. Why spend drachma when coins are so much easier to come by?

Vaults

Is this option for keyless entry documented in the Help files? I'm not online to check, but I don't remember seeing anything in NEWS about it. For that matter, I don't remember seeing the "say recall" trigger listed as an option. I'm not sure how people are supposed to hear about these things, but it seems to leave a wide gap.

It's not really anything new exactly. It's on the current Sloth Housing page:

http://www.slothmud.org/index.php?name=PagEd&page_id=43

The exact entry you're looking for is:

[quote:2o3puwnp]3M Special trigtraps (anyone can purchase)[/quote:2o3puwnp]

Basically, we bought a trap in. We learned about it from our good friend Derro the pthief, who had bought one so that he didn't need to worry about carrying a vault key on Hellmaster and such.

The problem with them is... you don't strictly need a key. So, if you get pissed off and have a lot of time on your hands... its possible to guess them. Like we did to Derro :P

The easier way is to have someone just tell you the password... and then when it becomes public you end up with all kinds of craziness like happened in the DS vault.

This issue came up before when Derro did a bunch of crying on the boards about people being in his vault:

I have no problem with tt's used to enter vaults but we need a way to prevent these spaces from becoming public regen areas.

Here is the solution I am leaning towards. There can be no doors or tt's from these regen rooms to vault spaces.

This way, you open up your vault to everyone, you also open it up to pthieves who can hack your vaults.
