My reason for doing this, apart from my good nature (I've done this to a lesser extent for many new players), is that he was getting hassled by as I understand it 3 members of DoW who took offence at his name or wanted to buy his char.
I told him not to make a quick decision and gave him eq and gold worth at least 3 times the best offer he'd had, which was a paltry offer at best, I also suggested he get in touch with the clan leader (sorry I've no idea who that is) and explain his name choice and see if there was likely to be ongoing problems and try to come to some arrangement if need be.
To be completely frank I will admit that I find the fact that he's running around with the name Dow and there are clan members with his name in their title funny, personally I find that hilarious, but then I'm warped.

Well I never knew of any harassment. Lis come to me one day and asked If I knew about said char. I had no idea and figured it was another clan starting a joke. Catherine (Dow) sent me some tells one day asking why she was so popular in titles. I explained about Dogs of War and told her I would happily help with another char and gold to remove any confusion that might occur. She told me she had rolled good stats and wanted to keep them so I was fine with it and didnt think anymore about it. Everyone on Sloth should know that regardless of our 'jackass elitist' attitude we still do more than our fair share to help others. I never thought Rub didnt like Al, and I know him and Aaron like to talk smack. I just honestly don't understand why anyone would want to piss us off. I know Catherine likes to ask alot of simple questions on gossip due to being so new. I guess this might be funny to some since I guess they think its associated with our clan. Seriously we already have Brad if you wanna make jokes.
