need some opinions...

Postby Corinn » Thu Sep 14, 2006 7:41 pm

Well, I suppose its time for me to work on getting a change of clothes....perhaps 3 changes of clothes...

Pisces is a Ma, Cl, Wa, Th, and let me tell ya I really suck at this game. So I need some help figuring what I need for A. regen gear, B. running gear (so that I can maybe solo a little, but still be kick ass in groups), and C. raise gear. Anything that I can get soloing would be great as I have no assets. Here's what I have so far:

You are using:
<used as light> a philosopher's stone
<worn on finger> a basalt ring
<worn on finger> a teakwood ring
<worn around neck> an ebony ankh
<worn around neck> a hematite ankh
<worn on body> Shroud of the Exalted Priest
<worn on head> a pointy hat
<worn on legs> a set of polished bone leggings
<worn on feet> a pair of jeweled boots
<worn on hands> a pair of silver gauntlets
<worn on arms> sleeves of precision
<worn as shield> a runed shield of the moon
<worn about body> robes of the archmagi
<worn about waist> a golden-feathered girth
<worn around wrist> a runed onyx bracelet
<worn around wrist> a runed onyx bracelet
<wielded> a massive warhammer
<held> orb of magical enhancement

stats: 14 18 17 17 14

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

I have an idea  There is a link under the navigation bar that reads "Equipment." I think you will find this tool very useful. Big thanks to Blackmore for keeping it rolling.

If I had a nickel for every nice thing Krok has said to me, I'd have about 18 cents.

eq advice

Postby Avatar » Tue Sep 19, 2006 3:18 am

Several posts, but there seems to be little actual advice. For your question "C" raise gear, the eqlist is the best option. There isn't a lot of +shock gear, so anything you find there is a possibility.

In general, you could really combine gear "A" and gear "B". In very small groups, it can be a good idea sometime to switch between a regen and run set. In a large group, the tank is the only person I'd expect to change eq. So, you could probably try to optimise some set of run eq that has a good combination of mana regen, mana, and spellbonus. That balance between the three can be a difficult discussion, and other mage prime players might be better prepared to answer. For myself, I would usually set a first priority on mana regen, then max mana second. Obviously then basalts would be out for rings of flames, a pearl or any of the +3 mr lites, the shroud is good, crystal helm is always nice, etc. Your Str is good enough to shoot for 18/10, if I remember right that's a good stopping point unless you can easily reach 18/80 or higher.

If you have enough time for more goals, a second eq set that seems to be common would be spellbonus/AC. Again, a mage player might have better advice but finding the highest spellbonus as a priority and then wearing AC everywhere else seems to be common. In small groups you could switch between the regen and spellbonus modes to maximize your usefulness.

Just in my opinion:

Switching eq in a small group seems to be much more beneficial than switching eq in a large group. If you look at your personal contribution, switching eq between runs might increase your contribution to the group by maybe 30%. In a group of 3 people, your +30% might average out to the group getting 10% better runs. In a group of 15 people, your +30% personal contribution might only make a 2% difference for the group. This 2% is quickly outweighed if you pause the group even once or twice to ask for a minute to change your eq set. Really, it takes a very good leader and a very smooth group to take advantage of your +2% contribution. Indeed, we could call that a "potential" +2% that only actually applies if the group is running extremely well, with good coordination and optimal selection of mobs / runs. If you group isn't efficient, you could probably contribute more than +2% by other methods instead of switching eq modes. For example, helping to organize a healo, helping to find the best runs, paying attention for quick blinds & debuffs, blasting as quickly as possible during stab runs, floating heals to extend healo mana, anything that helps the group run just a little more smoothly would probably result in a higher +% contribution than swapping eq modes. Just for some example, consider a group that spends 10 minutes regenning then 10 minutes on a run. If your contribution can help to cut the regen to 9 minutes, you've just improved the group output by close to 10%. It follows then that a large group should never wait for everyone to regen full. As additional people get to full mana, the group sees diminishing returns. The point where the leader says "all up" depends on the group itself, but it seems to me that the slowest 3 or 5 people should never expect to get full. On the other hand, if you constantly regen to full before the group is ready to roll you might consider dropping some of the mana regen for other max mana gear or finding ways to spend mana to help slower people prepare for the run.

Sorry if I'm rambling, it's late and I'm tired.

Regards,
Charles

When i get in large groups id prefer to be down in the protect order and do
the run in regen gear. As opposed to switching everytime one wakes up.

This works at 4x40, make an ok solo set but can be improved upon.

Its just an ac setup, but the 14 str makes it hard to pick up str and damg.
