I don't care for the use of STFU or WTF on gossip. In my opinion, it should be prosecuted the same as the F word - a warning, a no shout and then escalation. I do use profanities liberally on private channels, and think they should be allowed.

I've been off and on of SlothIII for several years as a different character, and have lurked on the forums for just as long and felt it was time to break the silence. As far as I'm concerned, STFU, WTF and the like are no more than everyday comments, usually between people who either know each other outside of Sloth or have become friends online. I rarely see someone getting pissed off and starting to blast everyone with F-bombs, usually its someone giving a friend a load of crap and being told to STFU in a joking, playful manner.

I agree with whoever it was that said if it really offends you, turn off the channels or set a trigger up to replace the offending text.

Thats just my few cents worth, and now I yield the soapbox to the next poor soul.

As probably noted in the other threads on this and very similar topics, we have a censor feature on gossip so that we don't have to have as many arbitrary enforcements of rules about acceptable and unacceptable language on public channels. Clearly STFU and WTF are not on the censor lists or this discussion would be mute.

I could start a poll on STFU and WTF and see if the majority of you are offended or not by them and then enforce it with the censor command. However, I think it's kind of silly as abreviations are up to the reader to interpret. For example, you could simply translate to "shut the freak up" with very little stretch of the imagination when you see the abbreviation instead of assuming the worst.

For the record, this is yet another arbitrary decision by the administration, but feel free to continuing discussing or shutting the freak up. We are not likely to make any change, but maybe someone will.
