naming supplicants

Postby Nascosto » Sat Jul 29, 2006 11:52 pm

Supplicants are pretty fun, but I have 2 suggestions

1) It would be cool if we could name supplicants like we do spirit watchers.

when there are 2 or more supplicants in the same room of the same type it becomes tricky to order them to do things like report or rest etc.

Even if this is just an auto name that would be fine -ie, player name becomes part of mob name: xag-ya-nascosto or something similar.

2) non cleric prime auto assist mobs. as a thief I can only use the healing supplicants - the lag is too great to order mobs to assist for what I'm killing. however, I suppose this might be too much of a balance issue

Problem with that is that tell selects the last created mob with a name as the target, so if it where called xag-yi-nacosto, anyone who did a "tell nacosto ????" would be talking to you supplicant (since by definition your supplicant was created after you were), and that would have to be coded into the equation as well.

I could make names for them. That is, you don't get to name them, but they come with a unique name and they introduce themselves. Some of the buff ones like the pit fiend have a finite number anyway (I think there are only 9 pit fiends; the 10th person who tries to summon one gets nothing) and the rest, well, we don't have so many players that there are going to be a hundred eudaemons on at once.

I think auto-assisting non-cleric primes supplicates would be too much :) Leave em for us and use eudaemon :P

I'm pretty sure this issue came up before and the code was changed to look for a pc with the exact name before doing a random search including mobs. So 'tell nascosto hi' would go to Nascosto before his rabbit. On the other hand, 'tell nas hi' would most likely go to his rabbit.

The mobs you get from supplication now have unique names. See if you can collect 'em all! (Some of the less humanoid mobs like chan chu and xeg-yi don't have names, but peris and eudaemons both do.)

If you for some reason want a specific one, you can summon him by name rather than by species. Assuming that he isn't already busy, you'll get that one.

summoning specific named supplicants is a nice touch

there should be some unique supplicants (1 of) that can only be summoned by their names - they should be a little different or better than the ones out there, or have a strange character quirk.

maybe there names can be learnt from an autoquest, or perhaps from reading the text of a gravestone in some obscure area etc.
