A Ju-Ju Zombie crumbles to dust!

Postby Melanthe » Fri Jun 30, 2006 11:04 am

There seems to be a bug recently introduced into the game. Often when I summon my JuJu now, it crumbles to dust. It took me 5 summons this last time to finally get it from crumbling. I've never seen this problem before until recently. Many other necros I've talked to are having the same problem. It's quite annoying to burn up all my mana to summon it.

Is this deliberate or a bug?

Either it's a bug or it's something nobody told me about. I would say 50/50.

Ok, I can't immediately say what the bug is, but here's some advice:
When the juju zombie appears, his first action is to follow you. He does this the same way anybody else does it, and if for some reason the 'follow' command fails, (for instance, if he can't see you), then in a few seconds he will decide he's a masterless juju zombie and crumble.

Well when I summon Juju now I immediately order to do something, like dance or sleep. So far so good; I'll let ya know if it ever crumbles doing this.

pretty sure thats not the problem. as we (that would be you and I) discussed while I was in Addict (yeah, thats me too), darkness was causing my juju to crumble...the juju couldnt see me, had no one to follow (this seems to be what kjarttan is indirectly saying...juju tries to follow but he cant see you so the follow command fails) so it crumbles.

Of course, I've been wrong before and I dont really play my necro too much so who knows. That's my theory though and I'm stickin to it.

On a side note, I think juju's should aito-crumble upon being ordered to dance.

There were two occasions when my juju crumbled. Both of these times I had just left the inn and started up my juju before any other pet. I don’t recall if it was day or night, but I don’t think darkness matters as my juju has accepted orders from me when I’m invisible and after casting the darkness spell on myself.

I was under the impression that summoning the juju has the same success and failure rate as other spells. This brings up another interesting aspect of the failures myself and others have experienced. Most seem to have more than one failure (crumble) in a row. My juju crumbled three times in a row the first time and twice in a row on the next occasion. However, when I get a run of bad luck I assume it is just normal randomness, or I bumped into one of the patterns of the random number generator used here.

Yeah I agree with you RR. It is darkness or dark cloak. And I'm thinking if I order it immediately after summoning, it will follow before it crumbles if it can't see me. My theory is, if I give it an order, it will know to stay and not to try to determine itself whether or not it has a master.

I think if you order it successfully, that means it has already followed you. It wouldn't obey you if it wasn't following you. Roadrunr is right about the darkness. (Also, it follows you immediately upon being summoned, there's no time for you to do anything before it follows you.)

So Darkness and Dark Cloak can cause this problem. Any other spells that may?

Darkness is not a problem since it has such a short life, but Dark Cloak could be a real problem. Sometimes one of the immortals is kind enough to rain down Aegis and Dark Cloak on everyone, which lasts a long time. From what I read, Dispel Magic only works on spells cast by those near or below your level. So, when you are a good ways below immort, what should you do in this situation (besides ask someone of a sufficient level to dispel you)?

Or can the summon juju code be modified so it just follows regardless of whether it sees you?

Another problem I've seen is what just happened to me today. I logged out really quick to fix a weight bug, logged back in and my juju charm crumbled. Lol logged out to fix a bug only to get another bug.

I have made it so jujus have innate darksight, which means it's already up when they load. Hopefully this won't happen any more.
