This happenned to me as well. The best suggestion I got was that it was a "Major Futility" or something like that. So it's an intentionally sucky thing to have.

Im fairly sure that Major Futility increases the xp on mobs, not decreases it. I dont have any suggestions on the no xp, but its happened to me before, maybe mob was changed and not approved.

It happened to me two mobs in a row, so I logged out and logged back in and it went away. Not the best of solutions maybe, but it worked.

One possibility is the recent bug where if you are following someone who has not grouped him/herself, you get no xp. (or a mob..)
Judging by my quick test that is still broken, so it could have been that.
