BTW the original word was pernickety and not persnickety. Pernickety goes back a few hundred years, persnickety is an early 20th century word.

wow I never knew pernickity was such an unusual word that it could cause more comments than voting, in my experience its just another everyday word.

There are a number of subtlely different definitions on the web, this seems to be the the most common, close to my OED and Chambers dictionaries and exactly the sense in which I used it:

giving too much attention to small unimportant details in a way that annoys other people;
