why not just use the slothmud voting thread instead of starting a new one?

While on the subject of voting...

How can we be outvoting everyone on TMC, but can't even hold onto 18th place on TMS? There's 2 links people, use them.

persnickety
One entry found for persnickety.

Main Entry: per·snick·e·ty
Pronunciation: p&r-'sni-k&-tE
Function: adjective
Etymology: alteration of pernickety
1 a : fussy about small details : FASTIDIOUS <a persnickety teacher> b : having the characteristics of a snob

That's quite a reaction, Elsie. Out of refills?

BTW the original word was pernickety and not persnickety. Pernickety goes back a few hundred years, persnickety is an early 20th century word.

[i:2jx9h4x2]""Persnickety" was first documented in English in 1915 as an alteration of "pernickety," a word that has the same meaning. "Pernickety" goes back to the early 1800s, but from there, the word's "history" gets messy. Some say "pernickety" might be from a child's version of "particular"; others, that the "nick" part came from association with "knick-knack." But it's all pure conjecture, and no one knows for sure."[/i:2jx9h4x2]

wow I never knew pernickity was such an unusual word that it could cause more comments than voting, in my experience its just another everyday word.

There are a number of subtlely different definitions on the web, this seems to be the the most common, close to my OED and Chambers dictionaries and exactly the sense in which I used it:

pernickety
adjective (US USUALLY persnickety) DISAPPROVING
giving too much attention to small unimportant details in a way that annoys other people;
finical or finicky:
As a writer, he is extremely pernickety about using words correctly.

finicky
adjective
1 DISAPPROVING difficult to please:
a finicky eater
He's terribly finicky about his food.

with this great wealth of knowledge, I have no doubt that you could better serve mankind as a door stop, speed bump or even quite possibly a road cone.

You rock Auto. If you discount the meanness implied in that comment, the rest of it was quite funny. :)
