Blaster Quest Details --- Thanks Blaster!!

Postby madmax » Fri May 26, 2006 1:23 am

For thoes who were not online Wed, 8pm CT, Blaster ran another "greed" quest similar to the previous one. Very well thoughtout, lots of carnage, especially with the quest group.

Minstrel lead the quest, Started out with this:

Many fissures suddenly erupt throughout the mortals lands, spilling fire and lava everywhere.
The rivers of lava flow together to create a massive god of fire.
The God of Fire and Lava takes his place in the world as Satan's number one helper.
He declares war upon all mortal beings and will not rest until everyone has faced his wraith.
Sudenly a glowing stream of liquid gold erupts from one of the fissures and mixes with the lava.
As the two liquids combine a chemical reaction occurs causing them to form into a magical flaming band.
Satan lets out yet another loud scream and causes the magical flaming band to fly high into the air and lands upon the God of Fire and Lava's finger.
The God of Fire and Lava proclaims to the mortal world that anyone who can defeat him may take this sacred band of power for their own use.
Suddenly, a voice echoes out from the heavens.
Anyone who dares destroy the evil God of Flames and Lava and dares to take the band from his hand will have two choices:
You may be greedy and keep the band as your reward, while your helpers go unrewarded, or....
you may surrender the band to the immortals of this world and receive a reward for all of your helpers.
But beware, if you choose to keep the band, you yourself may become just as evil and bitter as the god who once wore it.
Be warned, you should stay as a group, or tarrasque may appear and go on a killing rampage.

We eventually found the Fire God on SS in Vampire Lair, wearing a magical band of flaming lava..It has a soft glowing aura!

After killing the Fire God, (700+ mil mob) that eventually was figured out that the best way to kill it was to use restoration (after several mass CF's).

The ring was obtained and id'd as:

Object 'ring band flaming lava quest extreme high limit! given_out', Item type: ARMOR
Item is: GLOW DOUB-40-ITEM
Weight: 4, Value: 50000000, Worn in: FINGER
AC-apply is -0.3
Can affect you as:
Affects: MANA by -10
Affects: DAMROLL by 1
Only those who have attained supremacy in at least two classes may use this item.

There was a bit of disgruntled players at the end. A lower level player had picked it up and apparently thought since they picked it up, it was thier decision to keep it or not. Eventually, it was given to Minstrel. As he was contacting Blaster to exchange it for the group, Time expired and the ring could not be exchanged.

Congratulations to Minstrel on recieveing the ring, for leading and keeping up with the massive group, over 30 at once.

Personally, I could not keep mana from all the raises :) (A typical Blaster style quest!)

Thanks for the Fun Blaster, and please continue to come up with ideas like this. Makes the MUDDING more exciting.

I have to re-apologize that minstrel and blaster thought I was botting, when in reality I fell asleep. I was all drugged up on cold medicine. My short stint in mud jail made me realize that I was no help whatsoever in my condition so I withdrew from the quest. It was fun while I was there though, and hopefully I'll be able to make it to the next one.

I had alot of fun leading this quest. I have led several in the past but only recently have group numbers been so inflated. I feel confident in leading any size group, but my monitor is only so big. Here are a few ideas I have to help increase the fun.

Pisces dont worry about it, I have fell asleep a few times mudding.

Mortal items:

1 When a quest starts there is usually important information passed out. We cant read when 15 people are changing gear, drinking and eating, casting spells, emoting, chatting, and casting 'vent'. Turn your triggers off and/or walk out of the room if you need to pee.

2 Changing gear in a quest not only spams everyone but it allows any person in the group to steal from you. For most of us you dont have to worry, but there is always a noob that we dont know.

3 TURN YOUR LOOTER OFF. Honestly guys its not funny to use your thief skill to try and keep items. Its alot easier for the leader (who usually already knows which char is calling an item) to pass stuff out. This makes the group move alot faster, less steps...

4 Dont be upset if there is not a reward. I can remember recalling to west gate to find demogorgon standing there. I thought it was a joke so I poke demo. Demogorgon massacres etc. Can you imagine trying to hustle up some double 40s back then to kill demo at the recall point? Zarc always thought it was funny and if you didnt he might kill you for fun. There was rarely a reward, and when it was it was big money big prizes. He wouldnt pass out a nickel if anyone so much as grunted. We are spoiled as muds go. Think of it this way, what benefit does any immortal receive for "spicing" up the game. Im not saying that I dont appreciate rewards, just that I dont get mad irl if we dont get one.

5 We all know what our jobs are. This is based on your prime class, supporting skills, and content knowledge of the game. Theres no reason to ask silly questions or beg for spells. When we get clues, think about the clues and give positive feedback. If you can run somewhere, offer. If you think you know the answer, speak up. Each person brings a unique perspective to the game, hence each person is useful. Many times eq has been given to someone who *push bush* and find the trigtrap to enter an area.

6 Have fun with a new experience. A quest isnt like cycling for sbs or eq. I have actually have fun with desert/dot groups, but most cycling is pretty boring. Dont even mention chopping. Quests give you an opportunity to do something unique, which is the main reason to never expect rewards.

Imms

1 Giving super duper eq to a leader and asking to keep or trade in kinda detracts from the whole drachma idea. I thought drachma was something to keep everyone in quests from being upset about rewards. Even 10 drachma is good and everyone has a good time. Should the imm or the group decide who gets something? One time Dug passed out eq to players in the group who did the most to finish the puzzle. We all felt it was very fair and everyone was happy, this was pre-drachma times.

2 Its real easy to write a note and place it on mobs. Can be as follows.

Tiamat,
My dear sister I have taken the gem to a tower near the icelands.

This doesnt take much time because if you know the general idea of your quest then you can make the notes as the group progresses, if they get too far ahead send in the umber hulks. The point of this is to make clues/puzzles for the players to figure out. If there is a trail of notes and the group is stuck you can always send in some other assassin mobs with extra clues. We want to figure something out, not be told.

3 Godrestores speed the quest up, but I feel that most of us really dont want them. We all like getting them, but I think it takes away from the idea of finishing the quest. If you only have so much time you want to spend and the group doesnt finish, they dont win. If your bored and they need a few ticks to get back up, make a few more blocking mobs to the prize, or send some stuff in to kill the casters. Vaults should be safe and everywhere else fair game. If the group is taking too long they dont win like ive said.

4 Team quests with multiple groups seem advantageous with so many players. Leading such big groups is taxing on the leader and spammy for everyone. The teams dont have to be racing each other, they can co-op. Ideas where one team has to be in air plane to kill a mob while the other team is in tabaxi to enter a portal that some cat created are interactive and challenging. One team could only be able to kill the evil mobs and one team kill the good? etc etc...

If anyone was upset with the outcome of the quest, send me a tell. I planned on turning the ring in and I feel that the group was shafted. Either way I will see you in game. Keep up the good work imms.

Good post overall Medios and great job leading.

As for the part of drachma being an idea to always have something to give to all players that isn't the fact. When Splork and I first discussed suggesting a quest point type system we just wanted another way to reward people at times when we felt a reward was deserved. It was never meant to replace the use of other types of rewards or always make sure someone got something for each and every quest ran. Basically we leave what is given, if anything, up to the one who is running the quest. If players feel it wasn't fair, then they can bring it up to a creator to be looked into. But by not being fair, I am talking about favoritism on giving only certain players rewards, and those players not really deserving the reward that was given.

I will continue to run quests where drachma is given, prizes are given, nothing is given, a combination of things are given, only several rewards are offered, or any other possible thing I can come up with from being either eqpop for the whole mud, maybe everyone can play on lyme for an hour, ect ect ect. Just because there is a quest, as you pointed out earlier, don't always mean everyone will get something, or drachma will always be handed out.

Drachma is almost too easy to get sometimes, hence why I don't always plan on giving it out for each and every quest. So if players come to my quests expecting something, that is where they are wrong. Be happy if you get something, but either way, come to the quest just for the fun of it and to enjoy another aspect of the game.

it's funny too, how several of the "hotshots" who said they would do the same and loot the quest eq during quest and not turn it in even if they weren't leader, were the same ones who supposedly bitched about not getting a reward.

lame hypocrites
