Saturday night quest!

Postby QuestReporter » Mon May 22, 2006 3:26 am

On a brilliant, sunny afternoon in Tokyo, mudders from around the world were surprised by a booming echo 'Quest starting in 15 minutes.'

A Necromaster by the name of Ditheca quickly took charge, gathering a group of adventurers to meet in meditation and await the voice of the gods.

Suddenly the earth shook and the rocks groaned in agony. The voice of Satan rang out 'Arise, King of Darkness! I crown thee and send thee forth to conquer!'

The gods of peace and goodness then spoke, pledging a reward to those who would destroy the newly crowned King Tarrasque and retrieve the odious crown.

Although pretenders abounded throughout the world, the group quickly zeroed in on the true king. He was found in the depths of hellwell dancing in eternal flames, and surrounded by a legion of tarrasques.

-----

One quick CF later, we managed to fight our way in and attack the King. It took some a few tries and a lot of dying on the part of Kronk, but finally the king was cast down and the crown retrieved.

The crown was -1.3 +damage +fire resist, but in a dazzling display of bad roleplaying, the necromaster Ditheca refrained from crowning himself King of Darkness and instead returned the crown to the gods.

To reward the sacrifice, each member of the group received 50 drachma and eqpop was turned on for an hour.

Special thanks to:
Kronk for tanking
Giselle for handling the healo
Ditheca, Brady, and Truth for finding the true king

The legion of mages who unleashed the fury of the elements on the King

and Blaster for hosting a fun quest!

nice sounds like fun,

pity that it all happened when I was sound asleep ... I would have got up for it if I'd known it was going to happen, but I tend not to play continually midnight - 7am on the off chance something will happen.

I know this is a US mud, and quests will naturally run in US prime time (and in fact always do) but 15minutes notice is the bit that it seems something can be done about.

Can I make a plea to make the game a little more fair, let the players from the other sides of teh globe have a fair chance of the 50dr and all pop periods, I'm not asking imms to get up in their night to run quests just for us, only to give fair warning of when they're going to happen.

As an aside I know a lot of readers of this will naturally want to flame my opinion, lets just take it for granted that I feel mildly insulted, more than a little amused and disagree with any replies you want to make that don't fully agree with me ... phew thats saved me loads of time replying to any comments made.

Elsie,
Not as a flame but just a slight correction, the quest took place between US Eastern time 2am and 4am so it wasnt exactly hyperconvenient for everyone, we just got lucky, and since Blaster is in an odd timezone these days, when he gets time to run a quest it will most likely be at very odd times. Thanks Ditheca for leading, and everyone else for kicking butt, thanks Blaster for the quest, your Tarrasques are always rotten rotten bastards! :)

Laugh, first quest I've been on in months and it was 2-4 am. I've missed out on numerous quests and at least 2 100% pops that I know of. Sometimes you just get lucky, sometimes you don't.

Relax some.

I believe the 15 minutes notice is probably a deliberate decision. Experience often shows that if you announce a quest on the crier 2 things happen:
a) If it is open you get a group of 60 people that is so strong the quest mobs have to be insanely strong for the quest to achieve anything.
b) 5X40s who play twice a year log on for their twice yearly quest. Seriously we often have quest groups that only consist of a third regular players. The fifteen minute notice has the effect of rewarding current players on the whole. I know that sucks for people in other time zones.

Sometimes a leader has to think for the benefits of the whole group. In this
case 50 drachma for every1 is nice. Or be a greedy bastard and just take
the helm. We all know ur response AA :)

I think surprise quests are a great idea. And no, it wasn't a convenent time for anybody. For once, I agree with that pinhead named grue.

Thanks Ditheca, Blaster and everyone else that helped!
