Sweet quest, man.

Postby tincts » Sun Apr 09, 2006 6:31 am

Just wanna say a big thankyou to Splork and all others involved in today's quest. I had a great time, and enjoyed the drachma and a nice piece of eq in the subsequent eqpop :) Just wanna say that these out-of-the-norm mud events add a great piece of variety and interest to sloth, and a sense of community. I appreciate it.

:D Nods, It was indeed fun and generous. Thank you Splork for all your effort.

Was kind of a let down at the end tho, when collecting pops and discover that Alias and crew had run behind the quest group and scooped up pops.

Of course they feel entirely justified because "We weren't part of the quest. And we were killin that mob (seal guardian) earlier."

As if they didn't benefit from the eqpop being turned on and as if they didn't realize that the quest group had just killed the mob causing it to pop. I know he wasn't cycling it prior to the quest because he logged in well after quest was underway. :? And I like Krok's explanation also, "If you wanted some eq, you shouldn't have stuck with the quest group. You should have gone off and cycled eq yourself." (was her advice to Poodle) Ok, advice taken. Next time I won't even bother with the quest, I'll just wait till eq pop comes on and follow behind the quest group and scoop pops. If anyone busts on me for it I'll just say I was cycling that mob during the quest. But grats to them. They can give it to one of their lowbie alts. Or maybe they'd even have the nerve to sell it to me. :x

I do admit the drachma alone was worth the trouble. But staying up all night anticipating getting .8 shoulders, only to have it ripped away is frustrating. :(

Cheers,

Rub

Seeing these comments I think id have to come back and play again.

The worst part of a quest was healing and healing and healing, and getting squat at the end. For cleric prime at least makes no sense to participate in one, unless the leader is your best friend or a clan member.

But even in those conditions I've enjoyed the short end of the stick, as the order always goes something like: leader, tank, 2.tank, 3.tank, runner, runner, runner, and of course by this point everything good is gone.

It seems as though eqpop for a quest or during a quest would definately solve that.

Thank you to whomever created that, its an excellent idea that evens the distribution of prizes, and in general is just fun to play that way!!!!

Thanx for the toggle Splork and quest.

Postby alias » Sun Apr 09, 2006 11:55 am

I got on 5 mins after quest started and got to the group. I got lost cause I didn't pay attention, my fault. So I didnt do the quest, instead a few friends and I started killin mobs-one of which was seal guardian. after it was announced pop was turned on we checked him, no watcher was there, he was loaded. We killed him. end of story. If u dont put a watcher I dont know ur hittin.

Sorry to "clean up" after you. I would give you the guards but they went to someone else- who incedently is not a newbie or any of my alts.

Also just at the end of us killin it Someone else walked in to kill it who could solo, so I expect that if we didnt kill it that person would have.

Thanx for the toggle was definately fun. Sorry I didnt do the quest tho. 75dr would rock.

About that quotation.. I meant that if you see a group of 30 people (where 20 have no clue what hey are doing) who were spending a lot of time running to the mobs when eqpop was already turned on, you can't really expect to get a guaranteed item. Minstrel did a great job running it, because people don't listen at all - I met this problem a lot of times lately. And if I see people swearing cause they didn't get a pop - they could really split after discussing the mobs with the main leader.

Great Quest! Thank You!

Postby Qa » Sun Apr 09, 2006 2:16 pm

First I want to say a big thanks to Splork for setting up the quest. It was well set up, difficult, interesting and really fun.

Thanks to my group members. Good group, minimal deaths (for a quest) and not too much screwing up (for a quest.) Good job in attempting to cater to all the needs of the group, Minstrel. Your leading was great, and quest leading is a very tough job.

I must admit I really didn't think I could quest. My in-laws were supposed to be in town all wekend, but they split yesterday afternoon. (Apparently the communication between them and us about their departure date was not clear - go figure.) My spouse wanted to go to bed early, but was kind enough to set me up with a box of crackers, some cheese and a beer. I said I wouldn't stay up too late, but I did anyway. Such is the way of quests.

Thanks for letting me have my item, I have been after a set of vguards for 5 years or so. :D

Thanks all!

Overall, I think we had a great quest. My biggest surprise was that we were over 60 people and the vast majority of you were everyday players. Normally an announced quest draws a bunch of old players who no longer play. I really think the fact the prizes were mostly coming from eqpop may of kept those numbers down.

After all, why show up and quest only to have to pop your own prize for a game you no longer play?

The main problem I saw was that the groups simply get to big to manage. Good ideas/strategies get ignored or are probably not even heard.

I see two solutions for this, competitive questing(two teams) or quests which last over the course of several weeks. This way the group numbers stay manageable.

Enjoy,
Splork

I really do wonder though-what would of happened if I stayed out of it and watched the quest go unfinished till today or tomorrow because you failed to forge the sword while House of Sun was going on? I bet there would be a ton of flames here...
