It's asking that kind of question that lets everyone know you're a newbie...

So, and I'm not saying I'm going to do this, what would be the implications for pthieves and their victims if I made it so that a druid shifted into a dog could smell an item and tell who had handled it in (say) the last rt month, maybe with some further details like "this item smells strongly of Guinex", "this item carries a faint, recent odor of Poolp", etc.?

Unfortunately I think that would just mean the turnover time of stolen eq would increase - pthiefs could ship it to another char and that char (which would not be a known pthief) would just sit on it until it smells only of them - if it was time based..

If it were based on the last X people who handled it regardless of time, then that too would be easily foiled by a 'laundering' system where the initial pthief could have a series of non-pthief chars to ship the eq through until it comes out clean..

Isn't it amazing how quickly Weasel comes up with stuff to circum navigate a pthief protection system... Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

BTW I wonder what the mobs have to say about players stealing there inventory and equipment? Don't we say we live in a society where everyone is equal? I demand rights for mobs :p

Oh and.. "innocent till proven guilty"... don't worry about that...

Oh, I was aware they could circumvent the thing like that, but would they bother? And would anybody care if there was a way to tell who had had his hands on equipment?

True.. if you suspect you just scored stolen eq then I guess it becomes an ethical question really..
What will be will be I guess.

Well yeah hehe, but being pthieved while getting changed to do a raise or while changing into regen while in a group? The only way to avoid that is don't raise or be prepared to shock the dead (unless you wear raise eq all the time), and don't change into regen gear - that way groups can be even more fun while we sit around regenning for double the usual time.. pthieving in that situation is not a challenge, it's just a way to lessen the enjoyment of slothmud.

Yeah, forget regen. :P

A pthief can also **** up a group when he starts recalling your leader and webbing your tank.

Fun!

They won't. I'm sure the person who meddle in your fight with mob will be wiped because it's just another way of pkilling. It's concern dispeling, recalling, webbing ppl, assit mobs etc, etc. And once again pthieves aren't rule breakers, they do know rules.

what about to type 'where' before change to shock gear? and as I see when the leader says to regen in some room he should be fully confident that room is safe to regen and there are no pthieves near that place.

one word: stealth.

..plus typing 'where' doesn't mean a pthief won't arrive in the area 2 seconds later, unfortunately. A safe room is not always available or is impractical to return to if mid-run, and having to return to some safe room, change ito raise eq, then get back to raise a dead team member is totally impractical.

Got it already from the first repop (but don't tell Crush, he prolly will shot himself :P ). Now I'm kicking cooking male there. BTW it seems his regen kinda bugged. He respawned in awful condition but became exellent after we start to kick him and mare don't stop him to regen hp.
