I've had a few things stolen over my time on Sloth, for me ptheft mars the game and hands one disruptive player far too much power to disrupt the harmony of what is mostly a cooperative harmony amony the players, that said I knew ptheft was allowed when I started, I accepted that and will live with it.

What I do find particularly annoying though are 2 things:
1. That irreplaceable items, quest items and drachma items can be stolen and junked, this I feel is a disproportionate inconveinience for the 'crime' of being careless and leaving an item in inv even momentarily while e.g. nipping out of the inn to cast a 'create food' spell and back in.
2. That a level 40 pthief can pray on a level 10 newbie with no come back, and gives the newbie no realistic opportunity to get the items back.

... I know in the past week I've talked to one player in particular in the past week who had saved up drachma for weeks bought some oct token to try and roll some stats, only to have them stolen as he walked out of the dream weaver, perhaps not the best use of drachma, but his weeks of effort wiped out (as he saw irreplaceably) in a moment by a disruptive pthief made him give up on Sloth altogether.

I'm not sure much can be done about this, I'm almost certain nothing will be done, but it dosen't mean this is right.

Juggleblood,

As for the before mentioned affair where I was online then logged off just before blaze stole the boots. I was originally on VK with an alt character and saw the call for help to west gate. I logged on and proceeded to west gate to help raise those that had died. Rainlord was there already raising people and once everyone was raised I saw my services where not needed. I proceeded back to the inn and rented out then went back to VK with my alt character.
I went out of my way to help with a group CF and do what I could to help my fellow mudders and this is how I am thought of. Thanks alot.

Well, Gnu is only thinking about his ring, I guess it's pretty obvious he wants it back. I think it would best for Gondor to give it back :)

The ring is on the chopping block and goes to the highest bidder. If the winner is not Gnu and they choose to make a deal with him then that is their choice. I have been sitting on this ring for nearly 2 months and seeing as how I dont have a bard that needs it I decided to put it on the block. Had I known it was gonna cause this much crap to be stirred up I would have just held onto it and created a bard character that could one day use it. Live and learn I guess. Probably best if I just sit on all the other stuff I have and will continue to claim from the post office.

Shyla is the high bidder last I looked. She'd probably be more than understanding if it was removed from the block, and would quite likely try to work something out to return it to Gnu if it's not.

There's nothing wrong with getting something from the unclaimed bin or selling it. However, since you happen to know who it belongs to, you should probably try to work something out with the owner. He'll likely be very grateful since he lost it and wasn't able to get it back. Being on the good side of the Russians is never a bad thing in my experience.

On the other hand, if you sell it, he'll likely get it back anyway and will just be that much more frustrated with you for the extra aggravation you caused him. I don't think too many would blame him. Being on the bad side of the Russians is rarely a good thing in my experience.

I'd at least talk to Gnu. If he hasn't got coins to your liking he almost certainly has something nice to trade. And it will save all of us a lot of drama :)

I would call this a legitimate complaint. It would seem easy enough to add a check that would disallow you from stealing from anyone with fewer total levels than you have. Or within 10...

I think this would help in the following ways:

1) Newbies would be safe from thieving, at least for a short while. Stealing from newbies is kinda cheap anyway.

2) Assuming the thief isn't wearing any eq, it's at least _possible_ to try to get your gear back.

3) It puts things in perspective. If you somehow manage to get a 40 Avatar pthief... there's really no one to steal from, and those you can should be able to deal with it.

And I suggest this for a few reasons. First, the game makes a huge show of getting votes to get more players. Lately though, the thieves are causing more drama than they're worth and they both discouraging new players and driving existing players away. When they were only an occasional nuissance, it was one thing... now they're getting kinda old.

well maybe it is time to put player thieving on hold here at sloth.
our player numbers have been shrinking.
voting has all but stopped.
with all the changes that have happened in the last two years, blocking stealing from other players almost seems like a small change.

if it keeps just 3 or 4 people playing it's worth it.
can always just toggle it back on later.

it's almost too bad that when we get some of the better thieves i've seen in my time playing here that we don't really have the player base to support them, but that's the breaks.

as for the ring of harmony... you can count your blessings that Leaf doesn't need it. Who knows how high the bidding would get then.

and a tip of the hat to the player who left the ring unclaimed instead of junking it.

Yes. I now know who it belongs to. But that doesnt change the beginning point I made. If someone has a problem with me or something I am doing send me a message or find me ingame and ask me. No need to make it a public debate and run my name through the ringer. Had Gnu sent me a private message when I put this ring on the block or even within a couple of days I would have gladly made an attempt to return it to him for a small fee. However once he started this thread and made insinuations that I was a pthief is when I took personal offense and decided then the ring would stay on the block.

Next time make an attempt to message me. Its not hard. My ICQ number is even listed on "last player Gondor". I am generally easy to get along with until I feel I have been wronged. Insinuating that one is a pthief does tend to make honest players feel wronged. So go ahead and flame away. Say or do whatever you feel you must do. My decision was made when this thread began and I will not dishonor my own resolve for anyone here.
