Could not resist the joke. But here is the serious suggestion. Since boarding is now for use of in game skills, I hope the immorts will consider listing why someone is on the board, so that players can decide whether the authorities can take care of it, or whether it is time for a little Lynch Law.

My further suggestion is to divide offenses into "grand larceny" - pthieving and "petty larceny" that is purloin aura and anything else the authorities decide. The first would allow for corpse looting, the second would allow for pkilling, but not corpse looting.

The reason for this is two fold, many of us are much less than inclined to enforce purlion aura or other in game skill use, while pthieving is a serious thing. The second is for game use, imagine the possibilities if there are thiefly activities - like trying to steal from shops for example - which can get you boarded for petty larceny, and are therefore risky, but perhaps worth it, and the antisocial actions of pthieving. This would make it possible to have autoquests and so on which carry the possibility of not merely getting killed by a mob, but hunted by the authorities will all the pain that being boarded brings, but without the draconian risk of losing all your eq.

Since boarding is no longer for straight up pc v pc actions, the pcs should get more information on what someone is wanted for.

Perhaps there could even be rewards for catching miscreants and so on, but that is more complex. The simple "tell us why they are boarded" would be very helpful.

Maybe the imms could tell us what they had in mind when they coded purloin aura. How did they anticipate the players using it? I'm trying to make use of it, but being wanted is such a hassle with your inventory that it doesn't seem to be worthwhile to use at all.

And March is right about the board no longer being as meaningful. For example I got outlawed from purloin but then someone gave me a skeleton key that we needed for people to get into et. So, then Starbuck and Chi get outlawed for trying to steal it back. Now if someone had been dumb enough to see our 3 names on the outlaw board and try to attack us, we would have fragged them. The result could easily be a disruption of the 'harmony of the mud'. Something the admin claims to be against.

Someone has pointed out to me that the outlaw system has been in place for 15 years and isn't gonna change now. But purloin hasn't been in game that long. So maybe take a second thought about reforming the way the outlaw flag affects inventories? Pretty please, with sugar on top?

I will look into it. Any problems with purloin aura are probably my fault.

The reason behind the inv problems is to that the penalty for getting caught and killed as pthief is that your corpse can be looted. What you are suggesting would allow someone to pthief with good eq, vault the good stuff. OK he gets killed and loses some xp, ho hum, rub died 51 times last week.

The only way inv fixes would be reasonable is if there is a difference between big crimes that you are putting it all on the line for, and small ones where you can get pkilled but not plooted.

What were we thinking?

Who knows, but we have changed our minds. We were trying to limit abuse of the skill beyond its original impact.

We will be making some changes soon to the skill and the net is it will have a different drawbacks. You will no longer be boarded for using it, but it will be limited by other things.

If these don't work out (either too tough or too easy) we, of course, reserve the right to change it again all the way up to making it completely ineffective or impossible to use. Your patience with us is always appreciated.

Hey guys, I can be wrong but I was sure there was a method for 100% sucessful steal (at least for coins and aura), wasn't it?
