Blowing forges a thing of the past?( or close to it :)

Postby *Splork* » Tue Apr 17, 2012 2:09 am

Breeze posted his change log but I am announcing the changes a second time:

* Forges
* Blown forges no longer take all your items.
That is, the code will decide which item(s) to keep and which to give back.
At the moment, it is set to 1 item, but we reserve the right to change that at any time.
To head off rumors, Item value/stats/etc has nothing to do with which item is chosen.
It is purely a random chance.
NOTE ::
THIS OPTION MUST BE ENABLED BY THE IMMORTAL WHO CREATED THE FORGE OR A 45+.
I plan on asking Juggleblood to look at the forges and decide if any of the current
forges need the feature enabled, but I do not promise that it will be turned on, on any
particular forge, and please don't nag the immortals about adding it to your favorite forge.

This feature was added in because we love you ;)

Changes in whenever code is moved over, recompiled and mud is rebooted.

Feel free to email me a list of forges which some of you feel should have the new settings. This is an enormous change and we really hope you guys appreciate it. None of us want out time, energy, and sacrifices to be ruined in a second or two, hopefully this is a great way to meet both sides somewhere in the middle... Losing one cp, compared to ALL of them should be something you guys greatly appreciate and hopefully will show you guys how much we listen and understand everyone's concerns...

Breeze edit : @Splork - Thanks for taking it upon yourself to look at suggested forges. The no-nag comment was because I know we all have lives and a lot to do, and didn't want us to get a million forge-change requests.

This change should be applied to whichever forge I'm planning on doing next. And I'll only tell you which forge that is just before I'm about to forge it.

In all seriousness, I would support putting this on every forge with the exception of forges like the Midnight Sapphire. Lower level forges can be hard and frustrating to forge for lower level players, but if the idea is to only apply this to higher level forges, then just go to eqlist and type "forge" and apply it to all forges that require more than X amount of gold or something.

edit: Thanks to Breeze and Juggleblood for doing this and opening it to discussion. :)

Thanks for making this change guys :)

One I'd suggest are the CG clasp forges. I know there are some very rich tards around but most of us are balancing work/family and blowing 8million in an instant really sucks.

But I like stark's idea too.

I agree with the clasp forges. I actually came here to post that just got here a little late obviously. I just blew the tincture forge/brew the other day. The cps for these are temporary and to be honest pretty plentiful but would there be a chance of only a percentage of the 8 mil cost being lost?
Maybe you pay 2 mil to start the forge and 6 mil to pick it up, if it blows you only loose the 2 mil. Just a thought.

Thanks in advance this is a great change.

Nice compromise! I think the following are all good candidates:

carborundum greaves
guards of the maul titans
a homespun linen robe
a gray gemstone shard
a luminescent helm
flowing sleeves of the wind
a ring of flaming serpents
a set of infernite gauntlets
a hook-nailed avian claw
the Rune of the Netherworld
the scarab of destruction
Jet Black Greaves of the Yuan-Ti

:) I emailed Splork on April 18th with a list. I like the suggestions people have posted as candidates for the new setting. Also like Starks idea..

The list I emailed had these suggestions:

1. Carborundum Greaves
2. Guards of the Maul Titans
3. a bone hilted tempered sword
4. ring of flaming serpents
5. a set of infernite gauntlets
6. a set of moonstone claws of midnight
7. Black Kris of Power
8. Sleeves of the Obsidian Knight
9. tassle of the guardian

Can you guys repost your suggestions, with the forger mob listed? It's the mob that gets changed and I don't remember who forges anything. Or email me.

Was looking at eq list and just noticed that some forges say whatever forge mob will forge this for x amount of coins and some say forge mob will attempt to forge this for x amount of coins.

Ex:
a set of infernite gauntlets - the lava realm blacksmith will forge this for 7,500,000 coins instantly
carborundum greaves - Fjolnin will attempt to forge this for 9,650,420 coins instantly

I am wondering if it is just different wording or if forges that say will forge this do not have any chance of blowing up? Never noticed the wording wasn't the same for all forges and am curious.

afaik you are the only one ever to make that connection.

originally i had different messages for different things, but i ended up removing them and using just those 2 wordings
with the words forge/enchant/trade being interchangeable. the will attempt is a range from 1% to 99% fail chance.

well done :)

I really would like some sort of criteria for qualifying forges that is then applied across the board. Just cherry picking out a few forges that people can think of doesn't seem like the right way to go about it.
