Anyone got a report on what the quest was all about?
The man was either mad or both.

This post started as two sentences...

Postby van » Sun Apr 20, 2008 2:33 pm

Judging by the lack of disgruntled posts, I'm guessing the rewards were drachma and/or rank? Or did everyone get their griping out in advance?

Just curious... someone post what happened!

Btw, I saw someone post the idea of banning all new quest eq... why don't you just castrate us now and leave us with nekode envy forever? Nothing says preferential treatment like creating a two-tiered system based on when people started playing*, especially if this is your solution to the fact that fancy quest eq was obtained in a method many priceless thread hours were devoted to complaining about**! Just make people random, damn it, and let the sloth economy slog on (1000 chunks of kobold and 500 piles of dung for your fancy new helm!).

On another note, and perhaps this has been suggested before, has any coder given thought to "temp" quest eq? You get the item, it lasts three months (arbitrary), and then it poofs and becomes available for the next pot o' gold. Visceral thrill a la Joe, and you get the consolation of knowing that "hey -- maybe I'll get it next time". Plus, perhaps some imms might be more excited about conducting quests if they can have the pleasure of giving out fun rewards that might not encourage (as much) resentment***. Maybe tie lifetime to power of item, or even frequency of use (i.e. quest eq collecting dust fades faster). I know I'd be thrilled to have a super stabber or some extra +dam eq, even if it only lasted a day or two.

And one final thought -- since leading is such a bitch, shouldn't I get quest eq for leading SOOOOO many experience groups over the years****? :)

I have to go to work, so I'll stop procrastinating through rambling. Flame on!

Patrick (Van/Crisi/Schroeder)

* For clarification, I'm not denigrating the rewards of loyalty and long-term play, but I think that's well handled in drachma eq, extremely painful forges, perfect stats, and big fancy houses as stands.

** For further clarification, I'm not bashing anyone who obtained quest eq previously. You lucky bastards.

*** Personally, I question whether Dave will ever lose enough bitterness to hand out quest eq again. That makes me sad. :(

**** This comment goes for all those other tireless leaders out there, who put up with a lot of asinine shit. Can I get an Amen!?

On yet another note. what the heck happened? No one has posted details of what new pops are there, if there level restricted/temp etc etc... Didn't get to go as I don't have a lymer so several had to miss out on the last part. Please post.

In short...

*There was a play off to lead the group, in which Zukt bet Sa
*We trotted around the globe looking for some eq on biggish mobs our quest mob "Squire Dorrin" lost
*Then we entered the new area and killed stuff on lyme, of which roamed some special nasty quest mobs. It's not a notemp area.
*Sa died 20-30 times
*Most received 60 drachma... then a further 15, and 1 if you hit lucifier with us earlier.

I believe the ever outstanding Rynquald, and the knowledgeable Sheng received some -0.7 +5ma +5hp arm stuff for there above the call of duty efforts. The leaders were also rewarded in some way.

There are some prime druid legplates in the new area, which were given to Stryx... +10 mana shifted... which is kinda cool, cause I've always felt like a goon running around half naked... There is some forge in the new area as well.

The quest was fair, fun and long... and I doubt you will hear much whining about it, cause it was all well done.

I'm sure lis will have a map in a few days... if not already...

Special mentions.

*Fable for making sure everyone's eudaemon was the first to die...
*Gumbi for leaving the group and getting splorked every five minutes, and attacking squire dorrin.. I didn't like him much either...
*Ah for light comic relief every time squire dorrin lost something
*Brad for doing less :)~ than he normally does

Quest log!

Postby Sheng » Mon Apr 21, 2008 10:23 am

As promised, here's the quest details.

Prequest:

The quest started an hour late due to some confusion about the meaning of EST. As everyone stood around 1w of shallah, some sneaky <~Pirate~> busted out a mass teleport stick and kicked off the festivities. After running around saving all of our drowning companions, Zukt led the group on a Lucifer hunt. We got him to pretty hurt in one run which consumed two full moon auras.

Lucifer safely put to rest, we returned to SS to await Tox.

----------------------------------------------------------

As promised, Tox allowed everyone who wanted a chance to lead just that...

In a chaos arena to the death, Theca, Stormshadow, Sheng, Sa, and Zukt faced off in DoT.

Most everyone ran around like pansies while Zukt (wraithformed) swiftkicked them in the back. Finally, in the order listed above, everyone except Zukt died to elites.

We returned to SS, where Squire Dorrin approached us at the dwarven Scribe Shop. He said he needed help, and half a dozen groupies fell over themselves promising to do whatever he asked. (One of these days, the "evil" quest mob should approach the group first, really people!)

Squire Dorrin was missing some equipment, which he said was stolen by Demons.

Scattering across SS, the group searched high and low for the stolen equipment. (Shimbo?) found the first piece on the Marilith.

... Zukt gets some of Aromin's equipment from the corpse of a Marilith.

Next clue: I do believe they took the equipment off to the east...'

... Zukt gets some of Galvin's equipment from the corpse of Shiroka (finder?)

Next clue: Squire Dorrin says 'somewhere on thordfallen'
Lugnut says 'demons again?'
Squire Dorrin says 'I do believe ..'

... Nomic gets some of Benotaur's equipment from the corpse of Hyperion (finder Rynquald?)

Next Clue: A Solar killed the demon and took it! (finder: Edd or Lis?)

... Seraph has been banished to the astral plane!
... You pick up some of Merik's equipment.

Final Clue: Squire Dorrin says 'I'm clueless, go ask my King.. he is wise' (paraphrased!)

===============
King Lucius Degrance II says 'hi Sheng!'
King Lucius DeGrance II says 'It is good to see so many willing to help my squire in need'

Twink says 'your squire is not really good is he'
Lugnut says 'so what of this miss eq '
Ah says 'squire is a bum.. you should hire me to take his place'
Ah says 'I wouldnt lose your eq'

Eta says 'We are eager to come to the assistance of you and your court, your Majesty.'
__ Shyla says (to Dorrin) 'such silly people those people'

Gumbi says 'yeah, apparently he got whupped and lost a bunch of stuff'
You say 'we were told you were very wise, and could help us find the last piece of stolen equipment'

King Lucius DeGrance II says 'I sent my 5 Knights to Lyme to find an artifact of unimaginable power'
Zukt says 'Your squire was ambushed by foul demons.'

Weasel says 'and...'
Assirian says 'i love unimaginable power :)'
Lugnut says 'and now their eq with demon eh'
King Lucius DeGrance II says 'A great demon mage is there'
King Lucius DeGrance II says 'stole the artifact from my father long ago'

You page the gods with 'tox, permission to sneak the group's only 2x40 to lyme? :)'
(denied.. Kanae had to quit the quest)

King Lucius DeGrance II says 'but there is one more piece of equipment needed for the knights'
King Lucius DeGrance II says 'before you can go to Lyme'
King Lucius DeGrance II says 'Hrm, I wrote it down.. let me see if I can find it'
King Lucius DeGrance II says 'ah here it is'
King Lucius DeGrance II says 'It's on a wild island'
King Lucius DeGrance II says 'filled with ancient beasts'
King Lucius DeGrance II says 'I'm not sure where it is, but good luck'
===============

Zukt gets some of Tahgrin's equipment from the corpse of Malign that's on the ground. (finder Sheng... only seconds before Shimbo)

.... End Quest Part I

Part I of the quest was great fun, the most-cast spells being spirit watcher, refresh, and raise dead. Some questers were excellent and efficient at finding and checking mobs, others were still working on those skills and provided raise xp for team Cleric :)

.... Quest Part II
Squire Darrin returned to the Degrance outpost on Lyme, which he found under attack by bands of ogres

Rynquald quickly found the entrance to Mount 'An Mystica through the Ebony Grove (notemp)

Squire Dorrin quests-- 'That demon mage, I've discovered his name.. Aarotar!'
Squire Dorrin quests-- 'He's dispatched minions over Mount 'An Mystica'
Weasel -- ':: Tracks to Aarotar the Demon Mage lead northward.'
Squire Dorrin quests-- 'If you could destroy all the demons...'

New area info... a book on the ground at Squire Dorrin speaks of a powerful charm, forged by combining 4 artifacts (also forged)

The new area, Mount An Mystica, was crawling with 'Band of Ogres' and 'Two Dozen Demons' quest mobs. (We were told these were not normally part of the area.)

There's lots of aggros on the way up the mountain, some of them very large...
An icy rock beast is dead! R.I.P.
You received 42926601 experience points.
(Solo xp)

At the top of the mountain, we slew Aarotar the Demon Mage (revenge for his earlier splorking of ferret-Ryn)

Aarotar the Demon Mage is dead! R.I.P.
You receive 10455497 experience points as your share.
Your blood freezes as you hear Aarotar the Demon Mage's death cry.
Zukt gets gold coins from the corpse of Aarotar the Demon Mage that's on the ground.
Zukt splits 1000000 coins. Your share is 41666 coins.
