possible solution

Problem number one - youre using micro$oft vi$ta

You will probably have to find and take care of numerous permission issues, since wintin accesses the internet and requires you to have ports open.

if vi$ta is set up at all like xp, goto your control panel and look at your windows firewall settings, you will more than likely have to give wintin access thru there at least

My only other advice, short of switching back to XP would be to try and uninstall wintin and reinstall it, that may help with some of the permission problems

hope this gets you somewhere

or it may be that you don't have the .NET framework installed, which I believe is required for Wintin.. run a windows update by going to [url:1zqi2hmb]http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com[/url:1zqi2hmb] (use Internet Explorer browser) to check. The .NET framework is optional, so it probably wont have been installed by Vista's default automatic windowsupdate.

I ran Vista as a test at our work, and the hardware requirements just to run the o/s smoothly are rediculous. Also not to mention how much a pain in the ass the permissions are on it, and also there UAC (User Account Control) is quite possible the most annoying security feature i have ever seen. Also on a side note, the o/s is still buggy as can be.

Postby ermac » Mon Mar 19, 2007 11:41 pm

its true, i hate vista. i wish i would've gotten xp now... vista came with my laptop... i dont think i could trade it in for a nother... oh well. maybe they will start updating stuff, and making stuff that makes vista better. and i found an alternative to wintin. MUSHclient. it'll do until i can get wintin working.

A new version of wintin.net has come out that should work with vista. Please check the wintin webpage for the dl.

Ok I had problems with wintin.net and vista myself before, but just tinkered with it and seems to work. Uninstall 1.1 .net and wintin.net first, then turn off user access feature in control panel, reinstall 1.1 .net and then wintin.net and it worked for me. The culprit for me is the user access control which is the stupidest feature microsoft could have developed for vista.
