My apologies. I didn't know that anyone was using that pic, I just saw one I liked that I felt fit my character. It has been changed tho.

trying this again, seeing as how the last time i posted on this thread, the msg mysteriously didn't post.

shield rush - works sort of like charge, but instead of using your weapon, you get in blunt force dmg (shazuko has suggested this one more than once)

weapon of choice - choose one weapon the char uses most frequently and get bonus with that weapon...can be declared at any point in the char's career, but usually done by lev 21 prime

weapon specialization - prereq w.o.c., improved version of above, usually by 3x40

weapon mastery - prereq weapon spec, improved version of weapon spec, attained in av levs

item: sword breaker....when wielded, this has potential to break opponent's weapon

i had a little more description in the first post, but we will see if this one actually stays here

warrior sugg's

I like the weapon specialization ideas. I think it would be neat to change the way warrior skills are restricted now and instead restrict some to the weapon class you've specialized with. For example, broadside requires a sword of some type, but if you've specialized with spear why couldn't you restrict the skill to spear instead. Also, I think it'd be a good idea to be able to change this after the fact, but it shouldn't be real easy. A autoquest chain could be the key, preventing people from changing real often but allowing for some change during the evolution of a character.

For my own suggestion, I'd like some skill to help make trip an option during solo fights. Currently, trip / bash / stomp almost work during groups, but it's near impossible to use when soloing. I'm not sure technically what can be done, but some skill that improves the chance of tripping if the warrior is the only PC in the room might work. That, or some skill that warriors can enable/disable that automatically tries to push back down a mob that's attempting to stand. I'm not sure how this currently works, I've seen that this does happen which is nice in groups, but it doesn't happen enough during solo.

c 'grease' target kinda helps keep the mob down....not to mention it is hilarious as hell watching the slipping messages. if i am hitting a mob that is going to be a longer fight than stab/wind/wind then i bring in my wa skills, otherwise it is not worth the lag to use them unless grouped

These are my thoughts thus far, flame on. Only warriors skills today.

I think we need to work on skills that dont mirror other class skills. Giving warriors something like haste, or backstab just takes away from other classes. We dont want warriors to have duplicates of the other classes "good skills".

Im all about mounts!!

The sheath idea is really cool for stopping pthieves, but the lack of them really makes the skill a wash.

Skills like trip and stomp were designed for grouping, sitting mobs dont cast much and flail around alot, solo would be overpower. However adding other skills that combo with bash/stomp would be very cool. The bash/stomp combo has already set this up for future skills. Then warriors dont just spam in kick, or bash. An alert warrior could see that x mob is bashed, then stomped and add in the next combo move for more dmg. It would be hard to trigger since you dont know what level the combo is in. If you trigger to stomp on bash, then you obviously cant hit the 3rd or 4th move.

Dual wield is a cool idea but again, if a dmg based char like Medios gets
ahold of 2 weapons its way too powerful for the -1 point of ac. There is however other dual styles like sword and dagger. In reality sword and dagger can even use a small buckler. In this instance well say that no shield can be used. With dagger as main weapon, stabbing can still be done, sword attacks would be 1/2 attacks at base roll only. So lets say Medios has 5 attacks and is wielding a bolt and some random 3d5 +1 +1 sword weapon with no shield. I could stab with kris, get my regular attacks with it, then get a bonus 2 attacks with the sword for only 3d5 + char dmg. The +hit and +damage rolls on the sword would be negated since its not your primary weapon. This still gives a pretty big advantage to grouped warriors, but it gets closer to not being super powerful. I would have to look at some numbers but with dagger as main weapon the melee dmg done would be alot less than if you were wielding a sword, so there would be a way to do it.

Bloodlust - The thrill of the hunt can be supplemented with the blood of the slain. Just like a hunter drinks the blood of his first kill, the warrior can gain increased power from the blood of his enemy . Corpses can be consumed just like with infuse soul or sacrifice, blood would yield benefits based on the level of corpse. Embalmed corpses dont work. Alignment falls quickly during use.

Bloodlust = Vampire :)

I still like my idea :p single hand weapon can become two handed, just
remove the shield and get a big bonus, still thinking +5 +5.

I know some ppl that really drink deer blood out the heart right after they kill it. They arent vampires, just rednecks.

Mike

PS Young Sir William, how does say holding a dagger with 2 hands give it more power. Lets be honest, very few weapons are realistically 2 handed, it just makes you awkward holding it with both. Yes some weapons are 2 handed , but those you cant use with one hand.

Warrior Skills Mikey. Most warriors would use a sword or some sort of
weapon instead of dagger.

This would make most Warriors use Valor or other Swords, Maces.
Hey how many ppl can hit a home run with 1 hand?
How many ppl can hit a home run with 2 hands?

Also think LoTR, Aragon used 2 hands when he swing his sword. Never
used a shield, and he fought better. Hence the +5hit cause u can aim
better at a target with two hands. More damage ... check above :)

PS: Redneck isn't a Warrior Skill... or maybe it is. Dumb as a Warrior ...

your basic longsword is an either/or weapon....normally is one-handed but can be wielded two-handed for more dmg, less finesse. there are some swords like claymores and bastards and zwei-handers that are two-handed only and of course your shorter swords, daggers, main-gauches, those are all one-handed and two-handed is normally not possible due to shorter grip on them. and in response to the dual-wielding thing, i think mike's been secretly playing d&d. in ad&d skills and powers (where i got the weapon mastery ideas in the first place), it gives the diff in ac and dmg and stuff for the different choices your char can make.....dual wielding gives up a shield slot unless you have a small buckler or smth but because you have 2 weapons and, if skillful enuff, the two weapons dmg makes up for the decreased ac....and i think anything larger than katana would be awkward at best for dual wielding....i would think have one sword and one stabber (for example) and also having two medium to slow weapons (swords or larger) would slow you down TOO much, leave more opportunity for your swords to both be out of the way at same time and leave you wide open to attack of opportunity. (usually if you turn yer back on yer opponent or if it is hiding and can attack from behind or beside, you lose like 2 ac or smth and get surprise effects from dice for that round) sigh i think far too much

swords

Postby Avatar » Fri Jan 05, 2007 8:25 pm

Most longswords are specifically 1 handed. The grip on mine is so short, your second hand would be holding the pommel, and not doing you any good.

A bastard sword is just that - a bastard - some call it a hand and a half. They are designed to be useful if used in either one hand or two, so you could switch as the situation advised. A lot of tactics would call for using a shield when facing archers, or a two-handed sword when facing armor.

Really, this is all too much detail for a game that wants to be fun. In my opinion, warriors should be generalists - good at fighting with any weapon they come across. Maces, axes, swords - all of them.

Yep, Charles is correct. Bastard swords are the main weapons that can be wielded with either one or two hands. I think I even have a 2nd Edition AD&D book around here somewhere that lists the damages for each. You don't get a bonus... but if you wield it two handed, the damage dice actually change to allow for more damage.

I'm pretty sure Aragorn wielded a great sword, which is a two-handed weapon anyway.

As far as dual wielding, there's various restrictions on it depending how you're playing. Many many rules will restrict the off-hand weapon to be a smaller, weaker weapon. In mud terms, that would basically be a stabber, which would make it a main-gauche kind of weapon. Most will also give an extra attack for the off-handed weapon, but with a reduced chance to hit... and many times, reduced damage to one or both weapons.

It should be noted though, that a main-gauche was originally intended to be used in a primarily defensive capacity, with offensive posibilities...

It could be a nice combo with thief or bard though, which might make wa/th or th/wa more attractive to play. They're pretty much died out since the advent of the new classo thieves.

I understand everyones points. They only weapons I can think of that are dual purpose are katanas and scimitars. The rest are either/or. Sword of Valor is for warrior prime, I was trying to keep it for everyone. I didnt get sword and dagger from d&d but from a chinese movie. Anyways the video game Soul Calibar has a girl with sword and dagger. The sword is used for ranged attacks and the dagger for when your in close. I guess the better solution is just to make new 2 handed weapons with only slightly higher dmgs.

2 handed

Postby Avatar » Fri Jan 05, 2007 10:32 pm

We already have a two-handed weapon with maybe the highest damage around, short of the 3x40 axe.

Also, two-handed weapons get double the bonuses from Sharpen.
