1:Finding a cool place to mud: 0$
2: Leveling up a cool char: 0$
3: Being caught making xp's while afk: 0$

4: Someone screaming Clink sucks!!

Priceless!

(It would have to have been a 3rd offense for the password?
They normaly give a couple warnings 1st -- but maybe you were
afk and had not heard the warnings....Maybe they changed things
though since I been away)

Botting Refresher

Postby Clink » Wed Aug 23, 2006 8:33 am

I am what I am, but I strive to be it consistently.

Botting is getting exp or gold or eq while not at the keyboard. Life
happens and there is a pretty clear distinction between running a bot
and checking in on your character versus using scripts to assist with
some of the more mundane tasks of the mud.

Punishment on first offense is typically death while afk (in a manner
that likely wouldn't happen while you are there) and 5 levels when you
return to claim your character. In general, when you return to
discuss the matter, signing off before an immortal can return your
password will prevent you from logging back in.

A second violation results in a wiping of the character.

If you wish to return, simply email me as the email address below is undeliverable at this time.

Brief Rebuttal

Postby Hades » Wed Aug 23, 2006 8:31 pm

Sorry we can't see eye to eye on this Clinky but that high horse of yours stinks to high heavens. Botting and being killed (1st) offense as you so say only holds ground if for say I left a "bot" and you took action while I was actually extremely afk say at work or sleeping.. however in this case.. you decided, without actually checking by tells or such to see if I was here and had MOB's attack him. The timing itself was impeccable, but had I not went outside for those 2-3 minutes to watch kids load on bus, then I could have easily recalled when you sent the MOB's to attack. Again.. this happened doing the course of 1 fight... I got up fighting a star lord.. came back to same fight and negative hitpoints... then scrolling up to see what the hell happened..well the conclusion tells itself.I'm sure you could try to back your argument with 'IMM" knowledge but your'e full of it. I've cycled star city hard over last 3 days... mainly for the coins and experience.. it is ideal for a -7 warrior..In any case.. no use complaining.. it was a shitty action to take.. the thing that really irked me was the response when I questioned what the hell were u doing you stated.. don't even begin to question me on this.. wtf

You've acted.. now I shall re-act

ps-Diazz you input is greatly appeciated but only when you know what the hell your'e talking about.

It is said that you are not to bot. While they seem to normally look the other way on some stuff, this specific instance kind of bothers me.
Although given the rules that should be well known, Clink did what he felt needed to get done.

However if your going to fry Hades as a player, please make a solid attempt to then address all players who bot and screw stuff up for others.

The bots in groups in particular really drag the game down, and piss people off. Some people are really bad about it and need this same treatment.

Id love nothing more than to see some regular bot players get fried.

Hades to you, sorry to see what happend happen. If you want some valk help ill log on my valker to try to bring you back up to speed. But perhaps dont bot even for 3-4 mins. Build a switch or something and un-auto your char in the future.

Hades, bub, I've had more chars (both mortal and immortal) wiped then you can count.

Ive had the pleasure of wiping more chars for multiplaying/botting then I can care to even dare count.

If you think im defending Clink, your far from wrong, but neither do I advocate him, I was just trying to be funny.

inconsistency

Postby Malison » Thu Aug 24, 2006 11:28 am

This does seem kind of suspicious to me.

[quote:5y03nxa4]"RULE 4" "RULE FOUR" ROBOT BOTTING

4) No Robotting.
=================

Robotting is the act of setting up your MUD client to run the character on
its own. Playing a 'robot' character is forbidden, and will be punished.

You MAY create actions/triggers that perform otherwise repetitive actions
during and between fights. E.g. circling, eating and drinking.

If you need to AFK to get a drink or answer the phone, that is one thing,
being AFK in a group for 10-15 minutes while still “magically entering
portals and blinding Mobs”, WILL NOT be tolerated. If your leader believes
you are botting, good chances you are!!![/quote:5y03nxa4]

If all you were gone was a couple minutes on the same mob, then it shouldn't have been "botting." The rules help says you can even write scripts to continue circling or whatever in a fight, and can go AFK to do little tasks, so I can't see why spamming kick and doing something else for a moment would be any different.

[quote:5y03nxa4]Botting is getting exp or gold or eq while not at the keyboard. Life

This definitely seems like a much different definition of botting than the one players have the ability to see. And even under it, it's not like he was just checking up on his char, he was checking up on life, no scripts attached (as far as I know).

On the other hand, group botting is definitely something to be addressed as Mosaix said.

Clink is a God

Postby brand » Thu Aug 24, 2006 2:02 pm

yeah that sucks to lose 5 levels...
but they can be replaced...
burn on hades, burn on...

and...

In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem. If no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire, The A Team.

Applaud

that was great!

PS. I've had many amusing arguments and MUD-fights with Clink over the last 10 years about everything. Been transd to pissed off mobs, blown to bits, smited, disconnected, tossed from catapaults and even slapped. Mostly in good fun, but several because I deserved it.

My point is that Clink rarely does anything aggressive unless provoked (which I love provoking Clink). You can say what you want and whine forever, But it's his call, thats why he has the power, he earned it.

So good night, stfu and i'll most likely kill you in the morning.

Yours truly,

We can begin to address group botting as mortals. Just as an example, if someone hasn't fixed protects after the group kills a few mobs, I always have a spare recall. To me, it's worth spending the 2k to recall the bot. If people notice, that's a good opportunity to say "Oh, I've got a new person above me, could you fix prots?".

Also, I've seen leaders ask people to recall and afk in town if they plan to be away for more than a minute.

There doesn't have to be any implied "conflict". If someone gets recalled they should be ready to come back to the group when they're ready and available to participate.

Just my opinions.[/quote]

To Hades;

Just bot the five levels back:)

I can count on one hand how many botters inside of groups have been reported to me, it just doesn't happen. There are several fun ways to handle group botters;
1) Place them underneath the tank in the protect order-tank removes protect...
2) Leader runs to a room with a cold, fire, etc affect-great spot is olympus. Leave the botter in the room-he dies
3) Simply kick them out of the group-how hard is that?
4) I am probably forgetting a few more Ive used in the past but those are the most fun.

Enjoy,
Splork
