Well, one thing I've noticed about the books that pop on larger mobs is that they've got really good percentages. It's almost easier to get an xp group together and pound the area than it is to endlessly cycle the smaller mobs. It's a tactic I've been trying to use more and more since it helps get some of the more annoying spellbooks out of the way and doesn't slow down my quest for iron skin.
As far as the quest idea, I'm trying to get some more info on that too I guess. A quest that gives a spellbook isn't much good unless you can read it and automatically get learned, since running quests 2 or 3 times doesn't really seem to be an option.
The next best option seems to be something like a quest library. ie. If you complete a spellbook quest you gain a library card that allows you to check a certain book out of a library. Book is nocrumble and can't be dropped, given, sold, stolen, etc and has to be given back, and as long as it's out of the library you're max hps are reduced to 10% of normal. Anyway, something like that.
Anyway, that's what I have for ideas from the quest angle. If it comes down to brewing books... well, I guess it depends on the book... but I think that's just making things worse.
