Th/Ba versus Th/Mo versus Th/Ba/Mo

Postby Grue » Tue Jan 24, 2006 5:05 pm

I am playing a thief/mage/bard/cleric, and was wondering:
a) If monk or bard adds more damage to stabs (when the correct skills/spells are learned)
b) Does a th/ba/mo have that much more damage by having both, and if so (assuming you have cleric in the 4th spot) is the is a feasible class without mage and with the lower mana?

A skilled player can use bard in place for most mage skills.

Focus does quite a bit more in terms of adding damage than gods does. However, brothers makes your stabs hit much more consistently, so monk increases your max xp per run while brothers decreases your min. Between the 2, what I took would just depend on the other 2 classes.

If I were making a monster stab char, I would take monk and bard both and do w/out mage. You can blast some with bard and no charisma eq, same as you can blast some w/cleric, or you can use circle or get really tricky and remove your weapon to strike. They don't make up for the blasting that a mage gets, but your goal is to bring down the biggest mob possible with your stab, not to have to blast hard after stabbing.

I currently have a Thief/Bard/Cleric/Monk
I'm not very high at all in lvls, but I will be able to Focus, sing war (+7 dam)
and then stab. This should be a great stab damage wise.
Or I can just sing Brothers, and Focus so I have a small chance on missing
my stabs. Etc....

Dam bonus given by song doesn't count as usual damage in stab formula. I think it works like some sort of stabdam. Though you'd better go stab some friends in ET.

Another bonus from Monk is presage. A lot of areas allow for methods of getting a second stab, but I've been driven out of several because the wrong mobs hated me and I couldn't find another way of killing them. Presage can overcome this rather elegantly and keep the xp totals coming.

You can just make the mob sleep and focus and sing gods and sing brothers and stab after that... and make the greatest DAM/stab... and kill 1 mob/run.

As far as I have seen on arena, GODs of War add just about 35 stabdam if the prime bard sings... this bonus counts above all your caps on stab damage... I am not sure if it is good addition or not... I have never played thief prime, but I think that the main feature of thief-style is making fast runs with hard stabs... while all these songs eat your mana and slow you...

I would disagree to some extent on that. The main goal is to make the mob dead. There is absolutely nothing worse than whiffing simply because of the raw amount of damage you're missing out on. Stabbing harder is fun and all, but I think landing more stabs is easily a better use of mana simply because it's easier to sing, stab, dead, sing, stab, dead than it is to sing, whiff, cluster, fix, regen, start over.

I've tested this indirectly with very good results.

Im pretty sure focus adds alot to stab. The way I would go about it is focus, apply poison, sing brothers, splork. Repeat, rinse. If you whiff and have to blast its no big deal since brothers is a cheap song. If you try to sing gods of war at 35mana to start and some every 15 seconds they youll be dry with no blasting mana. If you hit a single stab you can always circle without stopping your song.

There's no such thing as an ultimate char... it all comes down to what you do and don't want to do. Auto's got one of the worst classos in the game, and he's at the top of just about every Top 20 list.
