While I agree that in many cases Druid damage forms will be preferrable to using
a weapon for those players, there's a few instances, I believe however, at the
time I was reasoning where Druid may be in a group, relying on the mana regen
and playing the part of another class (for the group's sake) while remaining in
regular form and using a weapon. Secondly, this item may have appealed to
non-Druid primes that occasionally feel the need to shift to more defensive
forms while mainting the ability to pickup. remove, wear, and carry everything
they want and/or need.
Now, let's separate the stats of the original form of this item into two groups: strength
w/weapon dam and AC. In one situation, the AC would be helpful whereas the STR +
WPN DAM serves its purpose in another situation. With this reasoning, the item serves a
dual purpose while never serving both at once without having to change gear.
Let's now take the dual purpose idea a step further and group STR with AC and WPN
DAM by itself. STR translates to damage and hitroll for many players, and that transposes
itself onto the damage forms like, say, owlbear. Suddenly, the druid feels the need to ship
and assist with healing in a group. No need to change your belt if they don't have a Heal Bonus
or regen belt; they can keep some AC and give their weapon some bonus damage while in the
group while tossing some heals the way of their tank.
Now, of course this won't apply to all characters and playing styles, but perhaps it could
apply to some of them. I'm sure there are other reasons that could apply, but these are just
the main reasonings I recall using at the time. Also, on occasion, it's more about the *option*
of equipment rather than the option of *great* equipment. You never can tell when that
character will come around and think to him or herself, 'Hey, that would be pretty nifty for
what it is that I am trying to accomplish!" Lastly, there *may* be something I or someone
else is trying to implement for some cases that may change the mechanics of the situational
practices down the line, and that is all I am going to say about that.
Hope that helps.
