Bal Harbor library is open for business

Postby *juggleblood* » Wed Feb 13, 2013 1:56 am

The Bal Harbor Guild alliance has generously provided a space and the funds for a library for the magical and martial arts alike. The library is located in the base of the guild tower near the Chief Scribe and the Mages guild. A woman named Janatra has worked very hard at putting the library together. Manuals and tomes may be bought for nothing and sold for nothing, courtesy of the guild alliance.

*0 a massive spellbook

Isnt it for Strength spell, that is no longer in game?
Also, why not put at least 1 coin price, just to cover the maintenance expences?

*0 a garnet spellbook

Why give away for free, when sun apprentice pops like 100%?

PS. As can be guessed easily, I'm quite sceptic towards this improvement, at least in it's current state.
In my experience, for 20- levels, only 2 spellbooks gave me trouble getting my hands on: Feign death and Knock; the rest can be popped easily. If I done that - anybody can.
You give things away for free - you taking away the challenge, newb can learn using website eq list search + a bunch of areas while hunting sbs, now he just buys the sb for nothing and learns nothing. Might as well set up exp/gold/eq dispencers.
I'd 1) set up reasonable price in gold, that must be put efforts to earn, compared to efforts of popping the sb instead, 2) limit the list: 20- spells/skills only, isnt kindergarden, 3) make it dynamic and random, sb currently in stock can disappear at next tick.

You're skeptical of all improvements, which i why I've ceased valuing your feedback. It's unfortunate.

The 0 is because I have better things to do than manually set all the book values to 1. So its easier to have the shop give and sell for free.

I don't even understand your other point. The shop doesn't load any books at all. It merely holds the ones that people dump there.

Whatever is wrong with your real life has nothing to do with us. Maybe if you got some fresh air and exercise you'd feel differently about everything.

Now look who's the flamer?! A thread was locked when it was consider the responses too direct at an Immortal. Then an Imm turns around and makes a direct attack on a player!

Yasik expressed an opinion here, supported that opinion, and then even gave suggested alternatives. Are these not the three pieces that the Imm/Support/Creator team is looking for in our forum posts?

How about another suggestion - copy the Newbatia Library model. All books (+/- 20) are bought and sold there, why not on BH?

What did Yasik get for the effort?? I'm not a follower of Yasik or JB. I find good and bad in players and Imms, good and bad in changes. And I'm certainly not anybody that can affect these (except for my own attitude towards them). But, if you lay down a "standard" of behavior in one instance (locking threads, for instance), you better believe the community at large will recognize when that standard is ignored elsewhere.

Everyone always drops books at that spot in the tower anyways. now there just in a list form with a mob that sorts and distributes them. +1 Juggleblood. excellent addition.

Adding a librarian to Bal Harbor is part of my secret plot to destroy the mud's economy by flooding the market with cheap newbie spellbooks.

And none of you can stop me.

This is fantastic. No more rooms cluttered with dropped books, and (assuming it works the same way as the valk library) it only takes a glance to see if there's one you need. :D

very nice jb! good job! now when you enter the popular rooms filled with spellbooks you are not spammed by all the books, and do not either have to pick them all up for just one or try to get the keyword right on the book you need. i personally like being able to type list like any other merchant. as to those taking offense to this new update.. except it as it is, if the books had value off valk people would sell them for profit as they are sold on valk, this makes sense. it frees up the books on the ground, and makes it easier to get the book you need that would normally be laying in a pile of 100 random books.
