FAERIE FIRE

Postby Thraxas » Thu Dec 10, 2009 2:05 pm

I'm interested, does anyone use this? it ought to increase your +hit in relation to a mob its cast on ... or possibly reduce their ac ... not sure how its coded. It sounds like it ought to be as useful a debuff as curse web or blind but I rarely see it used.

"FAERIE FIRE"

Usage: cast 'faerie fire' <target>
Cost: 5 mana
Level: Cleric 7, Mage 2, Bard 10
Duration: 24 Hours
Accumulative: Yes
Save Versus: Spells to avoid completely
Damage Type: -
Stratum: Summoning
Spellbook: Faintly glowing
Prerequisite: -
See Also: -

In spite of its name, this spell is composed entirely of threads of air.
It creates a thin current of glowing air about half an inch from the target's
skin, which makes said target much easier to see and therefore easier to hit.
Further castings will make the glowing mesh stronger and more visible.

This spell can be cast upon the caster itself to impressive effect,
and it is quite easy to master. It's used as part of religious and civilian
festivals in many cultures.

I think at low levels, it's probably more useful than it gets credit for. At upper levels, hitting the mob often isn't the problem, it's how many times it hits you.

In the old sloth mob AC was kindof broken, so this spell was pointless. But in the current version, this spell could be quite useful. Specially when you're using pets.

It's small debuffs to mobs, and enhancements to players like this I think would go well with supplication mobs, or awaken mobs if reworked... although closer analysis will reveal most druids blasting in form, or using there druid offensive spells, nearly always area... killing there supplication mobs... yeah I'm real sorry about the other day Iris... :( Best damn peri I ever had

I've noticed that faerie fire works as it always has since I've been here. bout 8yrs.
Casting ff till the mob 'glows' reduces mob ac 2 pts. A second glow ...2 more come off.
If u get the mob to something other than excellent of corse a backstab is out.
Regen required.:) I learned that from a player long since gone. He talked of very early groups standing there and all casting FF til mob could be had.. UM

Oddly, faerie fire was nerfed somewhat recently. It now only works once, and runs out after a few minutes. It still does +2 AC though.
If it ever hits.

We have not intentionally touched this spell. I cant remember the last time this was changed, my guess is decades:)

Please let me know online what is different and when it started happening.

In sloth 3? I would have thought 2 points of mob ac to be fairly irrelevent under the old code.

You saying it used to stack for 4 AC? I don't remember this at all. But even 4 ac points under the old system would have been a rather slight benefit. Although maybe armor class worked better for backstab than it did for melee.
