Six months already... (status report)

Postby *Splork* » Sun Sep 27, 2009 7:54 pm

We have been up for almost sixth months since we decided to restart SlothIII after its twelve year run. I am hoping you guys are pretty happy overall with where we are and the directions we have taken us in.

I realize we have lost quite a few of the older players but the good news is, newer ones have been there to replace them. Overall , our playerbase is up by almost an average of eight players from this same time last year.

We have spent a great deal of time listening to you guys and for the most part improved or made adjustments accordingly. This was, admittedly so, a weak spot for me and a few others during our last version...

Some of the bigger changes so far:
1) Stability and lag improvements(I dare say this is the most stable this game has ever been in its almost 20 yr existence and the bug fixes last month have brought about an end to sloth oriented game lag)

2) Improvements to grouping and front lining

3) Vastly lowered death penalties and chances of losing levels

4) Runes allowing the customization of eq

5) Area totems allowing for increases in concentration, cheaper spell costs, better heal and spell damage, etc

6) Universal increase in equipment pop rates

7) More special days(increased regen and mob eqpop days)

8) Less Immortal interaction( automated clans, automated triple40 eq, automated housing, etc)

9) Allowing players to level Avatar class at 4x40

10) tons of new spells and skills( especially for the weaker classes such as Bard)

11) slowly adding experience back to the game

This is only a small list but I felt I should list them. I would like to hear where you guys think we are overall and what changes you guys would like to see for our game. We all realize there are some things we are extremely biased and hard headed about but for the most part I really hope you guys understand that we are in this together and the continued success of Sloth relies on us working as a team.

Enjoy,
Splork

A couple projects that are almost done;
1) ranged combat is 95% complete and as soon as I find time to finish the weaponry, we will begin testing
2) A new up -to-date website featuring stuff such as an autoquest db that will help players locate autoquests and give them help with quest names and prizes and an area db that will show you if areas reset with people in them and how long the resets are!
3) A way to connect to sloth through just about any firewall
4) Hopefully, talking mobs will be worked on again

Wow, six month mark already. Well anyway...just wanted to thank the imms for the hard work and especially listening to suggestions since the restart. Also, thanks for staying on top of communicating with us on the crier and not waiting for flame fests or angered tempers over a subject to chime in. There are more than just in-game changes since the restart :) Keep it up and thanks.

I know this is a minor thing but different recall scrolls based on levels stil has a few people bothered....magi aka sheng got on the other day and asked if succor made scrolls he could use yet and I said nope not yet that I know of....
I tried to recall rigwarl the other day adn couldn't b/c i didn't have the right kinda scroll and if toxis wasn't in group he would have been screwed. can we please just got back to one kinda recall scroll or 2 if you want to do a separate one for valk only.

I am still here though I said I would leave and I know I whine a lot but there are still things I would like to see adjusted. I know you aren't going to change the protection system but this constant chaos and group collapsing is causing me a ton of problems in my group and I can't create people that aren't on or won't group. I get people to join that will join and I would like some way to adjust this system maybe do this AND protection so you don't have newbies dying b/c they don't ahve it autoed to man back or me dying b/c i don't see stuff in spam b/c of my eyes and I don't auto anything. I would have newbies man up and take a couple of hits but for some reason the weakest person up top seems to be hit way too much so even this doesn't work.

There are probably other things I would like to talk about, but I hate writing and I have to head to work.

Thanks for all you do and all you are in the process of doing

As a perspective of a player that quit several years before sloth 3 ended, I really enjoy the new mud. It's been very stable apart from the occasional crash here and there, which has been quickly fixed.

The new fighting system confuses me but I can live with it, knowing that tweaks are still being made and you guys are working on it still.

The runes sound exciting but thus far haven't really been able to see their impact just yet. Would be nice if they popped a bit more often or at least popped on mobs that didn't require huge groups to kill. The totems sound cool as well, but will need to see more people apart from Anrok getting them out to see how well they work.

I do enjoy the new 8 class system and the unlocking of Avatar levels (even if I haven't hit a level 40 yet).

My main reply would be that the game is still vastly difficult for a new player to get into, especially at the low, low, low levels. It would be really nice if Whiff was able to add onto the website updated information for newbies (after all the other things have been done, of course).

But I have to really give major props for the addition of new skills/spells, especially all the Bard improvements. Bard is a very hard prime class to play in my view - I've kept trying and failing. But I really appreciate the additions to the Bard class - it needed all the help it could get!

The new stat system / rolling system is nice as well, although it can be frustrating for people that want to get better stats than from the tri tokens - although this system is vastly better than the old one. The level 8 pick option is excellent.

That's all I can think of at the moment.
