Extreme weather in Southern Illinois

Postby Medios » Tue May 12, 2009 8:37 pm

All I can say is Wow. My power went out at 1pm on Friday and it just came up about 3 hours ago. The internet just came online minutes ago. I have a pretty cool picture of the 2 transformers on my block laying in the street in front of my house. I have seen at least 5 houses crushed by large oak trees that uprooted and left 7 foot tall root/dirt mounds. The corporate hanger at the airport lost its roof and insulation along with pizza hut, dollar general among other places. My giant sycamore(100+') didn't lose a limb. I did lose a few shingles and a piece of siding. Had to clear out some limbs from a maple tree in the front yard that snapped in two but other than that I was fine. Bought a 5kW generator(briggs&stratton single) to keep my food cold and some essential stuff going.

Ameren did a great job. I went outside every so often and watched them really busting ass to get everyone back up.

Then they came to northwestern Indiana, no power for almost 48 hours.

I know Deceptilycos was behind it! :)~
