I agree animals having coins is stupid, and so are easy island mobs that are loaded. But how can you fill this void?
You could create markets for animals parts... furs, bones, scalps.
Group mobs could load treasure items that could be coded to give a set amount to each player in the group... ie, a group of 5 gets 10k each, instead of 10k split 5 ways.
Item values could be fixed to be realistic. Take for example the mystic platemail, that was such a good item even avatars wore it, yet it was easy to come by and sold in the shops for nothing. Yet something like Infernite Gauntlets prob had a shop value of 1m or less.
Item values could be calculated by a formula. Something like MobSize * Poprate * ItemStats * ItemLevel. If your going to nerf coins selling items to shops should become a viable enterprise... not just mage stones, tokens and hellwell pops.
You could create markets for resources... along the lines of the gem stones that pop in poisedon. They could also be found in the various parts of sloth located underground... you could use a terrain flag.

Such items could be the basis of newbie forges, or "value added" items.
The amount of coins associated with completing quests was always fairly small, that could be improved.
A lot of these things already exist in sloth, they just kind of needed to be worked the right way. Most of those chunks were useless and junked, but just by changing the emphasis, you can create new markets and eliminate the sillyness that was sloth III coins and make SLOTH coins something a little more interesting than a bot script of certain mobs running every 40mins.
