Super Forges

Postby jezer » Tue Jan 13, 2009 11:08 pm

My character is entering that "avatar end zone" where meager improvements can only be done through tedious drachma, tokens and honor. The thing I've enjoyed the most from sloth is forges on non Lyme continents... and basically... I've run out of these forges to do to improve my character... So my idea is too make more!

But seriously right... avatars have at least 2-3 eq modes... and it means a lot of crap in your robe... example...

MAX AC SHIELD typically -1.1/2
MAX MANA SHIELD typically +10 ma
MAX REGEN SHIELD typically +1 ma regen

What would be awesome is being able to merge some items into one super forge... somewhat adding the capabilities together into a uber SAv item.

Examples...

Tiger Fur Cloak WITH Onyx Necklace of Demons = -0.7 + 20ma... or there abouts
Ars Magica WITH Crystalline Tail = -0.6 +25mana + 3ma regen + 5 spellbonus... or there abouts...
Feather Cinc WITH extra_awesomeness_waist = -0.5 + 15 ma

All your really doing is cutting down on the eq we carry, rent costs, small increases in worn regen/mana in an AC MODE at anyone time... The forging/trade could be administered by Lyme Mayor, as he only deals with SAv anyways. It seems a shame 40 odd forges on the eq list aren't useful to most players... but compound them... and hey... you got my interest! Idea also prolongs life after 5x40... which is looking kind of short in the way of post avatar eq improvements.

until the imms apply the % var possibility of poofing the items on failed forge...

then you'd be pissed.

Could make him take bribes to be more careful in the form of XP tokens.

Give him one token, 50% poof rate, 10 (for example) tokens and you get it up to 80%.

Edit: And now I think about it. If you give him too many tokens at once, he decides you're rich and starts demanding more for subsequent forges

I compiled a list of all the forges I want and still don't have...

2 Gemstone shards (heal and spell)
1 Moria Platemail Forge
1 Staff forge in mystica
1 Crown of Mithril Bound Crystal
1 Bone Hilted Sword
1 Adamantite Greatshield
1 Carbo Greaves

I then added up the "improvements" of having these items over my current ones items...

The result was [color=red:16xh68s3]+11 ma in max mode... and +5 ma in max regen mode[/color:16xh68s3], some sysshock, +15 heal/spell bonus.

When you consider true improvements to my character can only come through extra attacks, damage points, faster regen, and more mana... that is a crap reward for months of cycling... and chop groups.

It's disappointing to reach avatar and somewhat have your road to improvement capped. The only way I can really improve my character is more mana and better efficiency. (It's what I'm focusing on with tokens)

I wonder how long term players like Shyla/Strider etc keep playing when there isn't really anything to make them much more powerful than the day they reached avatar. I guess I'm looking for that ****** that continues the game for me.

There is only 2 SAv items on the entire Eq List.

To me, one of the most unique things about sloth... is it's long term players... and in my book, they should be years ahead of me, instead of still sitting at the ceiling which I am approaching. So you might end up with players that can splork the shuggorth lord... they earned it... big deal.

I hate to break it to you but your light years from Strider. Just because you can solo some high level forges with overpowered druid shifts doesn't mean a whole lot. This game has a lot more depth than just eq. Now I will say that eq does mean a lot when it comes to the power of your char, but your having a hard time understanding why we work for that extra 5 mana/1mr. The most important things in sloth are mr and damage. These items come at a premium and usually earn eq the title "quest". Many of us veteran players don't get butterflies in our stomach when we die or forge something new, we like sloth for the people and the relaxation of making fun of your posts.

What rank is Apprentice? How many area openers have you led? In which area have you been the first to complete a forge. Do you have a pendulum? If someone dies at the yuan-ti warrior east of Histachi can you recall them? I could come up with a hundred things that I bet you don't know or haven't done and none of them have to do with eq. Not that I am attacking you, I just think you have a skewed view on some things. Granted you do have some damn good ideas.

I know what your saying Mike, and your right.

Apprentice (the character) might be nearing the ceiling of his ability... but that doesn't make me an awesome player.

I don't play sloth to be a legend and be respected by other players... heck some of the people that play as you know... are impossible to get along with... and they get a kick out of knocking you at every possibility, no matter if you smack them around, play it neutral, or act submissive, they have decided they don't like you.

I'm independent, I play for my own satisfaction and when I run out of character improvements... the game looses it's luster.

The game for me is about making the best character that I can, and if that journey makes me a good player... so let it be, but it was never the goal.

Isn't Histachi a brand of vacuum cleaners? : p

What about teaching, thereby maxing your spells to 100%? That's a mission. Have you done all the drachma autoquests - I'm sure there's a few yet to be discovered, I've also heard there's some eq items here and there that have never been popped. Is that area off CG still open where you have to wear the breathing charm on your head? Honor rankings - how you doing there? Got perfect nat stats yet?

Then there's immorting and doing some coding.. endless challenges.

Or you can do a Toxis and start your own private army of characters. :)

Undeniable Weasel... there is plenty to do... plenty I have written down to do... but when I stop and analyze it... practically none of these things makes me more powerful... except buying mana...

If a mob takes me 2 runs... I want to work my butt off to do it in 1!

My fulfillment in playing is at stake, given I can't increase my raw power outside of mindless xp tokens. It feels a little bit like game over... If I'm not getting more powerful... I tend to loose my drive. Getting the best eq was the game to me, as it increase my powers.

It's different for others, I think of "social players" always grouping, some "DoW" players "no one is as awesome us" and there "insecurity about their superiority" crap, and Weasel warning the world of impending doom about Obama. We all have different reasons to play.

Anyways, back to SAv eq. It would be cool if there were more Ars Magica type forges for SAv's... whether they involve other large forges, large amounts of coins, xp tokens... make it personal... whatever.

There is plenty to do once you reach SAv, one of those things isn't really eq... as you generally have most of it already by then. Yes I could make a new char... but it will always be crapier than App.

Enjoy SLoth

Enjoy Sloth, Apprentice. Wait new zones for new eqs. Till you wait, you can run autos, search for fun places in mud, explore... Help ppl with exp and eq. Lead groups. So much thing to have fun...

The problem is, you won Apprentice. Every game has its beginning and an end. At the end of the game You have exp tokens and stats to buy which should entertain your for the rest of your life but can only make you marginally stronger, but those margins add up over time. The problem is as a druid there isnt much that can make you more powerful except for maybe more mana regen.

If you like the game and want to continue playing, why not make a new char (cliche, i know) and explore the game from a different perspective. Learn new areas, lead lowbie exp groups, be a stabber or a tank for once - try something new.

If you just want to grow and become stronger as you did before avatar 40, im afraid those days are over. As if you let the characters to grow exponentially then as you say you let them become overly powerful, but while you think its not a problem, others will disagree. Avatar 40's constitute a large potion of the current playerbase and if you let them become super powerful then there would be less and less reasons for them to get together because mud is just not big enough if everyone is able to solo demogorgons even if you have to work hard to get there, people will get there eventually..

As many have hinted before, fun comes from doing various things, not focusing on only one of them:
- grouping
- exploring new areas
- hitting new tough mobs
- popping rarely popped or finding new eq
- figuring out how to survive, group and kill mobs easily in dangerous areas (i.e., as a challenge, master The Herbalist Isle [and pop me two +str +hit rings ;)])
- complete all autoquests
- forges, even those you don't need yourself, but might be fun and challenging to do
- buying ideal stats, maxing out in Mayors shop
- buying 5 maxed out GPs on all continents

If anything, do create a new char, radically different from app, such as a wa/mo/cl/ne or something (heck, even try wa/mo/th/ba and get him to tri40 at least, solo, if possible)

You do need to find ways to have fun: just remember fun comes from a a little bit of everything different.

That being said, the most fun can probably be head (in my opinion) is from grouping with a few trusted friends in deadly dangerous areas or soloing and/or popping eq from really dangerously mobs.

Also, you might as well try to find the char that you'd love playing not because its the most powerful, but because it corresponds to your personality (i.e., playstyle, skills, spells, gear swtiching, etc).
