Live info for areas?

Postby 12345 » Mon Feb 26, 2007 1:13 am

Ok. Using avatars, it's possible to rip up the mud. Without them, life gets a lot more interesting.

So, while I was sitting back wondering what to run, here's an idea that went flitting through my mind:

Would it be possible, using one of the many live update things we have on this wonderful game, to add a mobs list to the Cartography section? We have comments and equipment, it would be very very cool to have a section for mobs. And by this, I mean a generic listing of the mobs in the area, and how much base xp (no time alive xp) they each are.

I'm thinking this would serve a few purposes...
1) It might help discourage the occasional newbie that thinks they can solo the flame.
2) It would give folks a much better idea of how hard the area is beyond the insanely vague descriptions we have now.
3) It would help give leaders an idea of where to run their groups.

I know a quite a few areas, but I'm still occasionally stumped for where to run... sorry.

As a side benefit, if there was a timer next to each saying how long its been since it was killed, that'd be cool to. Not really necessary, of course, but might be a cool add on.

It would save alot of coding if we could just stat mobs and rooms. I know that only immortals can do this, and only for a good cause. However, If I could stat every room and mob then I could always be prepared when my healo is botting. I would know every xp value and eq pop without ever even having to lead or kill anything.

Im also tired of dying. Can we get a proc that kills the mob when we die, then raises us to full hp/mana?

Lol Mike

I agree with Bit that it's not easy for newbies and mid level chars to figure out what's worth killing. Exploring seems pretty daunting when you keep getting splorked and have to gossip for cr's.

My view of the problem is that the comments section of the cartography page is outdated and people generally don't take the time to contribute there anyway. The information there is arranged by zone and not level and the level indicators are fairly useless.

If someone were so motivated, perhaps they could start several threads on the newbie section of the crier arranged by level. I.e. "Advice for Mid-Level Warriors" "Advice for Tri-Forty Warriors" "Advice for Newbie Blasters" etc... I think just starting threads like this, even with empty posts, would encourage people to post and discuss what they know.

It was Bit's crier post about Theris that really got me interested in leading groups. I read that post and gave me a place to feel confident and get started and it encouraged me to learn more areas. Theres a lot of information available, but it could probably be arranged in a more systematic way.

just 2 cents

how many query's do you really want the mud making at any given moment?
seems like we've had enough performance issues in the past...plus, you can get a pretty good idea of a mobs size/power if your clever and observant, keep track of what your group did to kill it, and you will know for the most part its hitpoints, and a good tank rep will keep track of the -hps...if you want exact numbers for everything, go teach a math class!
