Most avatar monks look forward and are disapointed by deathtouch. I tracked 500 deathtouches and landed 378... You miss an entire 1/4th the time.
Theres some funky logic in there because grip lands 90% of the time (at least for the 500 trys of deathgrip I tried) which makes sense when you calculate the .95 chance of hitting * the .95 chance of deathgrip. But dtouch is practiced up to 85%... .85 *.95 should be an 80% hit rate but it isnt, its 75, and thats still pretty big.
Now sure, you can touch nostab mobs, but so what? You do less damage than a single stab and you only get one touch, and you fail 1/4th the time and you have a full round of lag, so if you miss you cant disengage or retreat... and you miss a lot. With grip its 1/10th... you miss less than half as often, and do almost as much as a touch. Never mind that monks dont like music like thieves do, and arent hit by any of the brothers songs.
So tool up dtouch so you can prac it to 90% and remove the funky logic that eats up 5% hitrate doing whatever it does, or at least make lag similar to stab so you can try again and it will be a useful skill. As is its a giant disapointment. I only dtouch mobs that cant do me a lot of damage that I'm willing to chop down anyways, because you miss you miss you miss. If I need to hit, I grip and release, because the extra dam from touch is nearly exactly equal to the extra hitrate of grip multplied by the lost damage.
And the feel of missing every 4th mob is just depressing.
If you want to keep dtouch more risky than grip, fine, but make it slightly more risky than atrociously worse. At 90% prac without that funky miss logic you'll hit at 85.5% of the time, roughly 1/7th, which is a huge difference. It would be nice if you got a chance to disengage also when you miss, even if it was 1/2 as likely as a stab.
