Quest?

Postby tincts » Sun Jan 14, 2007 9:20 pm

Hi fellow sloths,
had to skip out on the quest this morning to go to work. Could I convince someone to post a wrap-up, to keep me awake here?
Thanx

Big thanks to Ever and Lis for wasting 5 ethereal scrolls. The group ran pretty smoothly, alot better than Baraneth group. I apologize to group that there is no reward, not sure what to say about such a hard mob. I would say it was fun, but killing a person every round with no chance to heal is hardly much fun.

Oh he was the only mob in the quest? Guess I owe everyone a beer. I turned up for the last two rounds, sponged the xp and left again! I assumed he was only part of the quest. Had intended to just offer my meager +15 dam to the process. Thanks to Minstrel and everyone for letting me jump in and out.

Quest Cloud

Well, it was certainly a challenge. I'm glad I was able to participate, I'm pretty sure it was the most exp I've seen on a single mob. I don't know if we could have done it without the ethereal scrolls. Thanks Lis & Ever.

It sounds like you went through the same thing I went through in a quest with Zarc a long time ago. He created Ball Lightning and killed us in the same manner with it for about an hour. Then we got a Ring of Wizardry for it.
As far as I'm concerned this is an all-time low. I know some Imm's will say "Hey next time I won't run one at all. " Cool, if it's gonna be a lap harp and a tri token for drachma and xp, don't bother.

Unbalanced Quest

Postby Toxis » Mon Jan 15, 2007 2:34 pm

I lost 160 mil, I died 3 times, I shocked 2 of three times. Each time there was NO chance for a heal, which means I took over 1260 damage in one round with wraithform and greater fluidity and parry, at -11 and whatever stupid protection spells I had up at the time.

I'm sorry, but that is insane. I lost 160 mil for something I found NOT fun. That quest wasn't a quest, it was just a way to slaughter mortals. I'm trying to be as nice as possible about this, because I was so mad I had to log off sloth, but I'll never join a quest again if I have to tank it if I know I"m gonna die 3 times in 10 minutes with no chance of a heal.

All I can suggest is think more about what you're putting mortals through before you "stick it to them".

That quest was my bad. I wanted to playtest a mob with you guys and unfortunately, i didn't have enough forethought to get some quest eq requested for you all - it was a spur-of-the-moment thing. I am quite sorry it sucked....i was watching the fight from as many points of view as i could to see where tweaks were needed and i got a lot of info. I wish we had had more worthy rewards for you other than a tri, a harp and a "see ya later, thanks for playing". i do appreciate all who joined in the effort to kill fracto. those who have comments, ideas, etc about the mobs, feel free to post here or email me at ember@slothmud.org . i will not guarantee that all ideas will be used, but they -all- will be read. i'm still new to writing quests and stuff, so forgive me for overpower/underreward. once again, i would like to say thanks for all those who joined in the fight. you guys are the best.

Playtest

Well, if you want advice:

If your mob is chewing through players like that, purge the mob and restore the mortals - they're raised with no chance of shock. Lower the +hit or +dam, and try again.

I have to question the response to the quest here.

By placing a "bag" in the inv, you are most definately indicating prizes.

"Someone" early on was bugging and bugging Popa to lead a group and that it "would be worth his while" to do so. To bait a leader with rewards and not deliver is simply unacceptable.

To fill that bag with a harp, and a tri token, is insulting even to a valker for the work/death that was done to the group. Why even put a bag there at all?

Test mobs fine, but the comments here dont add up to the experience given to the group. Im sure it was a real laugher up there, personally I didnt find it very funny.

During a next "time" you would be hard pressed to get a group together to do much of anything for you, let alone quest again. How many times can you bait the mouse to the electrified cheese?

Quest

Postby Avatar » Tue Jan 16, 2007 12:24 am

None of this is "unacceptable". If you join a quest, the only thing you're guaranteed is deaths. You may have a chance for some reward, but you shouldn't feel like you're entitled to anything. There's a chance for some rewards, but it should never be automatic. If you don't want to take some chances, never join a quest.

These are just my opinions, obviously.

i dont know what you people want..

but my main reasons for joining quests are

#1 a killer piece of eq
#2 harrassing a large captive audience

of course.. not necessarily in that order

I didnt really expect anything except a bag full of low-mid eq for the group to be honest. I could care less about rewards, but making a mob that hits for more than the tanks hp every time is odd. It forced us to use drachma scrolls to kill it. There is no other way. If I am wrong speak up.
