For those that haven't found it yet, www.pandora.com is this really cool music site. You pick an artist or a song, and it returns a playlist of other songs that match the one you put in. With that playlist, you can give thumbs up or down to each song, which it will use to improve the selections that it plays. I don't know how big their catalog is, but it's constantly growing, and it's fairly large for non-classical music that's anglo-centric.
It's certainly not an end all and be all for all music fans, but it's extremely effective at producing a list of songs to listen to (which you can buy off amazon or itunes), or if you really like an artist/song but it's in a genre that you don't have much access to.
