I think there are in fact 8 versions, which are:
1 issued with no target, message to self
2 issued with no target, message to others in room ($n is you)
3 issued with target, message to self ($N is target)
4 issued with target, message to others in room except target ($n is you, $N is target)
5 issued with target, message to target ($n is you)
6 issued with invalid target
7 issued with target of self, message to self
8 issued with target of self, message to others in room ($n is you)
Where I say "$n is you", the following substitutions are made:
$n your name
$m him/her/it as appropriate for you
$s his/hers/its as appropriate for you
$e he/she/it as appropriate for you
Where I say "$N is target" the same substitutions apply for the target, but all uppercase. For example, here's the messages for "growl":
Grrrrrrrrrr...
$n growls angrily, like a fierce animal.
You growl at $M.
$n growls at $N.
$n growls at you!
Growl at who?
You growl at yourself.
$n growls at $mself.
Note that you can submit emotes but we may or may not put them in depending on whether we like them, we aren't promising anything.
