Hurricane Katrina

Postby 12345 » Mon Aug 29, 2005 11:33 am

I know Ezekiel was evacuating the other day. If all is well, he's in Texas wondering if his home will survive, and I wish him good fortune. Not sure if any others play from that area, but I can only wish you good luck. From what I've heard, the roof of the dome is coming appart, one of the levies north of New Orleans is breached and overall it's a really bad time for those folks.

If anyone has any spare miracles, they could use one.

Good luck.

Ezekiel here. I am doing well here with family in Texas. I'm not sure on the condition of my house nor the status of some of my friends who stayed behind in the suburbs b/c reports have not come from there and there is no comm. in our out of such are codes (which is a great burden on my mind atm). I have gotten word from some already through phones outside of the area code though and they say their homes and subdivisons are gone. It may be that mine is too since the eye passed right through my parish It's a sad day and I won't be able to return home for a month minimum by mandate of my parish. Thank you for all of your concerns. I'm glad to know that I didn't try and brave this one. An 18 hour drive seemed lengthy at the time, but it was far worth it. Thanks again all, I really appreciate the friends I have come to make on this mud.

Sincerely,
Ezekiel (Josh)

Good to hear from you, glad you didn't try to brave this one out. I feel for your loss, but at least you're safe.

I had to look this one up, since I was sure that Zeke was atheist...

par·ish (n.)
3. An administrative subdivision in Louisiana that corresponds to a county in other U.S. states.

I'm glad to hear you're ok. Sorry about what you're going through. Check out the DS board if you get a chance.

Glad to hear it. Wish I could help, but I'm in CA. Any other mudders affected by Katrina? It would be great if we could apply our Sloth goodwill to the real world.

I'm glad that you decided to make the drive, Eze. News from the area sounds worse and worse each day. Keep us posted if you can, I'm sure some of us would be willing to help out if we can.

For those that are curious about the area hit by the hurricane, some tools that can help you see for yourself.

1) Download and install Goole Earth. Amazing utility:
http://kh.google.com/download/earth/index.html

2) Then install the new post hurricaine imagery:
http://services.google.com/earth/kmz/noaa-tileset.kmz

Navigation is pretty simple, and while the updated images don't piece together as well as the native images, they're still pretty good and high enough resolution that you can see homes, cars, trees, flooding, damage, etc.

I don't know how long this will hold for, but have you tried googling "failure"? Note the first hit.
