Couple Convience Skill Ideas

Postby Deju » Thu Jun 16, 2005 7:27 pm

Hey -

I was just thinking of a couple thief skills that would be nice, yet wouldn't really add much power. Mostly these are for convience when using poison. Obviously I'm not married to any names, so if you happen to implement them call them what you want. I have thought multiple times that both of these would be nice.

1. Inspect Weapon: It would be nice to be able to look at a weapon and see if there is any poison on it (and what kind of poison). It would also be nice to be able to do this without removing it.
Ex: "Inspect Fangs": You see 2 applications of iocaine applied to the Fangs.

2. "Wipe Weapon: If i apply iocaine, but then decide i would rather use ryodine, it would be nice to do this without having to stab something first to clear the iocaine.
Ex: "Wipe Fangs": You carefully wipe the Fangs clean.

If i had my choice between the 2, i would much rather have #2. Just a thought, take it or leave it :)

Thanks,

Deju

I have often thought that this would be a great skill to have, examine and clear poison i think should be the same skill as apply, but this is really how I had envisioned it! :D

hell, take that idea one step further and create a skill called alchemy, where not only do you know what poison/potion it is, but you can brew it too instead of having to take to a brewer (sorta like sharpen skill, mebbe?) . would require note and cps and stuff....just my stoned rambling again. ignore the blonde

Wait a minute... this is a trick, isn't it? I suddenly have a vision of:

<999rm 41wz 0sv> wipe brand

But you don't have the brand!

lol, i guess that would make it too easy for immorts to "accidentally" wipe someone.

Oh, Sorry Deju, i meant to, um... wipe my new stabber called Deju clean!

And for those concerned with 'balance', there could be the choice (a check gone bad, rolling 1 or so) of:

You clumsily try to clean your blade and cut yourself!
You are poisoned!

...but i like the general idea!

Th skills

Can tell Taki is new :)

We don't usually provide those types of ideas when we ask for things. Imms will always add more...so if we don't say anything we might get a skill check and some way for it to fail. If we include that when we ask, we get the skill check but then we ALSO get some kind of mana cost or something.

:)

Just kiddin!! Don't clean your Avatar, KJ.

Poison is fun stuff. 'Clean' would probably be a better name, though I don't know how much value the skill would really have. If you wait a couple ticks poison disappears anyway. The ability to tell how much poison is applied would be nice... I currently just try to apply again and look for the message that there is already two doses.

I think even better would be a message saying how many seconds your poison has left. I can't count the number of times I've tried to apply, gotten a message that it's already applied, then caught a stab with no poison. That's just infuriating. Also, these seems more like they should be natural abilities instead of skills, kinda like throw is a skill and catch is a natural ability.

Yeah, these are good ideas. It's all in next crash or reboot. (See "help apply poison" to see how it will work, that's in now).

Just wanted to say thanks much for the quick additions!!

Is there any chance we could 'examine' weapons that we are currently wielding? (rather than having to remove them first). It's no big deal, but would be nice :)

Thanks again!

I think you can examine weapons you are wielding; I just tried it, it works for me.
