pthiefs?

Hmm.

Ok, first, I appreciate Kj even coming up with an idea for this. I know he's one of the biggest supporters of pthieves. Here's what I think of his idea:

1) You don't know if it was stolen or not until you actually have the item. With shipping, you pay the fee before you actually receive.

2) No way to tell if a chopped item is stolen.

3) No way to tell if a claimed item is stolen.

4) Weasel has some excellent points as well.

You can can actually fix most of this though. Partially by building an identify into shopping. We have it for the quest shop and the query for shops... just a matter of making it work for ship.

Also, we already have personal flags on EQ. They stay there forever. If you add another personal type flag that says something like *stolen-Poolp-Pendalf* you can actually track who it's stolen by and who they got it from and it won't go away until it's stolen again... Makes it rough since they'd either need another pthief to help them clean it (and only partially clean) and you'd have some idea who to return it to.

At least that would make it so that equipment is either sold back to its owner or junked. And on that subject, I'm also kind of in favor of the following:

Make it so that you can't junk, sell or ship stolen eq. I'm also kinda in favor of giving it a cursed type effect as well so you can't give it to say... the scribe. I figure that way the eq has to stay on the thief. So either the thief rents that char and loses it forever, or they risk someone getting it back every time they log on.

That last part is something everyone who's been robbed would like a shot at...

And yes, I know that's a lot of work and is probably still flawed. But I think it's the best shot at leveling the playing field.

I suppose I could wonder which of my 3000 tombstones that one is...

When did you add stick figures to your repertoire of psychobabble?

[quote="Rajil":qbiq2uuf]Yeah, forget regen. :P

A pthief can also **** up a group when he starts recalling your leader and webbing your tank.

Fun![/quote:qbiq2uuf]

If this happens let me know. Depending upon the circumstances and frequency I have been known to deal with this.

More specifically:
- if it happens once I likley won't do anything about it
- if it happens when people are regenning, I'm less likely to do something about it.
- if it happens when nobody is fighting a mob, I'm less likely to do something about it.
- if it happens when people are fighting a mob, I'm much more likely to do something about it.
- if someone dies fighting a mob because of it (not corpses, just dies), I'm really likely to do something about it.

By doing something about it I mean I might do any of the following:
- issuing a "one more chance" warning
- reducing levels
- wiping the offender
- returning any subsequently stolen eq
- banning an ip address or set of ip address
- passwording related characters

For the record, I am in support of legitimate pthieving being part of the game. I would take these actions whether related to pthieving or not as I perceive them as harrassment.

I am against this change on item tracer on pthieved items, as much as i hate pthieves, whats the point of the item tracer? Why not get rid of pthieving if your going to do this? BTW I love smashing pthieves around.

And i think the sword Harlot is referring to is a shiny longsword. NOOB
