HA! Bunch of the boys drove from Dunedin to Oamaru just to get takeaways once - they have (or had) one of the best takeaway fish and chip shops in the country. At least it seemed that way when we had the munchies.

I did a LOT of surfing around Dunedin too, and along the Kaikoura Coast, and even a few times in Ch-Ch itself (Tailors Mistake, Sumner)..

Skiing around there is EPIC too. Mt Hutt is great. My grandma lived most of her life in Ch-Ch, and my Mother. Great place to be based. We were thinking of moving to Ch-Ch instead of me going to NYC at one stage. Good you went there instead of Auckland.

Sounds like the fish and chip shop at the junction. We had it 3 times while I was over. :D

We shot up Mt Kurow for a day trip, we got to 1934m. Pic was taken at about 1400m. Photographs are bad at capturing the depth of field, but the field of view is at least 70km into the distance.

[img:am9puo82]http://www.leapfreak.com/images/Kurow.jpg[/img:am9puo82]

We also hiked into the South Temple basin, which is near Ohau and the Ohau ski field. This mountain range is pretty much the center for all the outdoors stuff we like to do.

[img:am9puo82]http://www.leapfreak.com/images/Shingle.jpg[/img:am9puo82]

We stayed in a hut over night, and then just did our own thing the next day. I had a GPS so we just ignore the tracks and make our own up the creek beds. Best drinking water ever! Pure Melted Snow.

We shot 200m up this shingle scree, until we 'bush bashed' through to the huge basin. The bush is about head height, but is dense as, you have to crawl through the bases below, or climb the little shrubs and walk over top of them... occasionally falling a meter landing with a branch between your legs  The angle of that shingle scree was prob about 50 degrees.

Good times with all the laughs added for good measure. I can't wait to move back, we lived in Oamaru for 5 years before we moved to Australia.

Camera was a Canon 450 Digital SLR. I obviously had to size the photo for posting, but in it's original form its 5 x 10 mega pixel photo's stitched together.

A lot of people from NZ leave and go overseas... most return within 15 years. Guess the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

Nice stitching work. I recently got a Canon SX10IS (actually it was a present from my g/f). Nice camera - about as close as it gets to SLR without actually officially being one.

I've been gone from NZ since 2001. Who knows when we'll head back. You're Aussie by birth though right? Or Kiwi?

[quote="jezer":2ibqte6s]The focus of the recession all seems to be about China here... rumours our government is borrowing big from them. Private companies in China seem to be investing big in other countries infrastructure while people are desperate for cash. When(?) it all clears up, figure China is going to be a huge player in practically everything. It seems to be in the throws of going from caterpillar to butterfly... however so much conflicting information... like is there economic strength really as large as suggested, or is it just some phoney communistic spin?

I'm not sure China can stay being, so called, "communist", if the full power of there economic arms becomes apparent, or will they collapse under there own weight, interesting times. I'm looking to move back to NZ to be closer to extended family. All my time is tied up in decision making and planing the move at the moment. My slothing is in limbo.[/quote:2ibqte6s]

The stitch photo was played around with in photoshop for a bit to make sure the stitch lines were cleared, and the light was adjusted. Clear sky's and good light for photographs can be a rare thing in New Zealand especially down south or on the mountains. When we were following the creek bed, it was absolutely beautiful. The sun shining through the canopy into a creek with old trees messed up by avalanches covered in moss up to 20cm's thick, but the light was bad, and with no tripod the photo's were disappointing and blured. This place was pretty remote... about 4hrs walk from the nearest road, carrying camera equip is a real drag. I'd personally not bother dragging an DSLR out there with a bunch of lenses and just enjoy the outdoors more.

My cousin's wife works at a photo shop and my cousin kind of does the whole photoshop and photography thing. My own camera broke on the trip, looks like I'm up for a new one. :( I was born in NZ and lived there for 14 years before we moved.

Wtf does this mean. Because Chinese work? The current US budget is as big as the whole China GDP. They have almost 10 times as many people. How in the hell can you say they work harder? Our infrastructure is thousands of times greater even with their current years of 20% growth. Also China manipulates their currency to deepen the trade deficit. This is all stuff you can easily read for yourself but you seem to be hating. China is at least 20 years behind many other countries, they exploit the working class and use the capital to invest in things like currency instead of their people.

I might have to take Tap's player hater award and certify it to Yasik.

Yeah, this means chinese work, not makin money out of money.
They produce industrial things, not some Hollywood movies, which is undoubtly is a waste of time, efforts and resources of any kind.
They dont have 10 times more ppl : 1.3B vs. 300M.
This is all stuff you can easily read for yourself but you seem to be hating.
The quality of infrastructure can't be measured, so this argument of yours also is invalid.
What makes you think i hate someone or something?

China is great because if you open your mouth and protest, you get ran over by a tank or get to take an exciting "vacation" for a long time(usually on the down-lo). They also ban all those pesky religions and make sure you handle your own abortions..you know.. its illegal to have too many kids there.

Awesome!!!

HAHAHAHA! Holy crap what fantasy world are you living in? China's (political) elite are as corrupt as Russia's, if not more! You really don't seem to have a clue about anything, except maybe posting death metal videos from youtube. Maybe you should just stick to that.

p.s. just so you don't accuse me of biased 'hating', imo much of America's political elite are corrupt as well. In fact it would be difficult to reach the higher levels of politics without being corrupt in some way, or at least shutting a blind eye to it (which is no better in my opinion).

Yes I have. You really are an ignorant f*ck aren't you. Never mind - I need to take my own advice: never argue with a moron, they'll just take you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
